Markt 19 — Local services in Roeselare

Utterly ghastly. Avoid like the plague. I am perfectly happy with what others might call junk food. I'll happy tuck into a McDonalds, Burger King, KFC. Markt 19 looked like it might be a kind of independent burger restaurant. But it was scarily much, much worse.. Unfortunately with a moderately large party, and having trawled around a number of other bars which were either closing for the evening (!), closed for the holidays (!) or vastly overpriced, once we started at Markt 19, we were too tired to find anywhere else. It seems that everything they sell is deep fried. The ordering counter is like a glass bakery counter with the "food" inside. In this case it was a vast selection of chilled processed "foods" that they would deep fry for you. We had various "burgers" and "chips" ("french fries" to our American-speaking cousins). However the "burgers" were the worst kind of processed "meat" possible and the "chips" ("fries") were nasty as well. To cap it all, they asked me if I wanted mayonnaise. I said "yes", assuming they would give me a few sachets. No, they provided two little pots of dubious "mayonnaise", charging about a Euro each for them. The "food", if you can call it that, was not really edible. I managed to struggle through mine through sheer hunger, but everyone else left some or all of their "food" uneaten. The only redeeming feature was that the canned/bottled drinks were actually cold, having come out of a refrigerator. We would have been FAR better off in the Pizza Hut just up the road. If this establishment (I would say "restaurant", but that would imply that they served food) promises to stop serving things which they claim are food, I will increase the rating to two stars. To be honest, I cannot understand how this place doesn't go out of business in a week.

Angry at us for no reason at all other than ordering two simple items of their menu? I ordered the bacon burger and was angrily told “no” with no other explanation. Niet vriendelijk, je staat daar eerst een half uur te wachten maar gsm is belangrijker! Als je er alleen staat en je al bezig bent met een bestelling van iemand anders geen probleem mee maar een goeiendag kan je tog wel zeggen vind ik.. we werden eerst totaal genegeerd. het vlees in de frigos zagen er ook totaaaaaal niet smakelijk uit infeite maar goed, Dan maar ander vlees proberen nemen die er wel ‘redelijk’ uitzag maar niets was minder waar helaas, smaakte niet en frieten waren 1 en al vet die eruit liep! Wij wouden ons vleesje dan maar meenemen naar huis maar ik ging geen inpakblad vragen want jas en handtas lagen gewoon op die bladeren gesmeten.. proper.. om dan ng te zwijgen van dat ze geen planken kennen… alles word gesneden op de toonbank zelf. dus vb je vraagt een kaaskroket of bitterballen, leggen ze bloot op de toonbank om vervolgens in hun handen weg en weer te lopen naar de frietpot om vervolgens een boulet te snijden op dezelfde toonbank in de paneerbrokken vant ander vlees.. kortom vies vuil en vettig! Properheid en hygiene een 0 in plaats van met je gsm in je hand te lopen achter de toonbank mss de tafels eens afkuisen. Jammer vroeger altijd een zeer goeie frituur geweest maar dit was voor ons de laatste keer vrees ik. Ps: en...
