Opened 1867 and in use until around 1945, Dieweg cemetery became the final resting place for a number of leading Belgian figures. Nowadays, it is largely abandoned and overgrown but beautiful nonetheless. Some of the famous personages found here include Jean-Pierre Cluysenaar and Paul Hankar (architects), Charles Woeste (politician), Léon Lambert ("banquier du roi") and the comic book artist and Tintin creator Georges Remi aka Hergé. The gravestone for the family Stern was designed by the art nouveau architect Victor Horta. Information sheet available from office at...

The Cimetière du Dieweg is a little oasis of tranquility in the south of Brussels and is also the final resting place of Tintin author Hergé. There are also a number of pre-war Jewish graves, some of them very ornate.

The cemetery has been left to grow wild and in the process is turning into a beautiful...

Somewhat over grown and dilapidated, but while I was there they had a crew working their way up through the cemetery cutting back the plants and vines. One notable grave is that of Herge. I believe the last person to be buried there, and it is clearly sign posted.
