Cole Island — Local services in Colwood

Accessible by kayaking, paddle boarding, boating or swimming this is an often overlooked piece of history located in the Esquimalt Harbour.

This historically significant island is being maintained and preserved and is available to access for self guided tours.

My daughter and I swam to the Island from Tovey Bay. When we arrived barefoot and wet we were treated to a personal tour of the historic site by the onsite caretaker. Very cool to see this place being preserved. I’ll be back again with a camera to get some more shots of this...

Rarely seen historical little island. Was an armoury island where ships explosives etc. were stored while in for repairs at the navy shipyard. No tours, no guides, the island is self tour with a few interpretive plaques. As for getting there, swimming is an option in the summer but otherwise it is boat access only.
