As I drove into the parkinglot, all manner of vehicle from a newer SUV to the oldest scuttlebus found in Tatooine's roughest areas were parked haphazardly through-out the snowdrifts that litter this city. I finally found a parking spot and parked next to a old freighter truck from yestereyear which foreshadowed what I found inside.
As I entered the building, the smell of cheap hotdogs and samonilla floated through the air like some bad fungus found underfoot the stinkiest Sandman. There were all manner of beings from 12 of more star-systems eating what could be barely considered food. One specialty of the dinner was something called Frankenfries, which were about the color of rust from a Jawa's sandcrawler. The humanoids ate them up.
I went further into the structure and saw all manner of table and items for sale. At first, I thought I was in 1973 with all of the ornaments from the early 1970's lining the tables. In the near distance, I saw a video game booth with systems such as Nintendo and Playstation One and Two. The owner of this curiousity shop looked familiar was was the same guy I bought some of my Commodore stuff from years earlier. There was an ectomorph who looked like the lead singer of Dio, but older. He had some Atari 2600 carts for sale at a $1 each so I picked up a few I didn't have. His prices were decent and he is always willing to bargain, so his booth is one I would recommend.
I went further still and was greeted with booth upon booth upon booth of old stereo equipment. The dust was in the air heavier than one of Jabba's reject dancers after eating a taun taun. The stereo equipment for sale was thick with dust, which told me the gear probably hadn't been maintained for the longest time. There were cassette decks of every size and stereo receivers to which surround sound would be a mystery to.
As I rounded the corner there was small booth right next to some Hot Wheels store. This small booth had a slew of Atari 2600 carts all common for $20 each(it said it right on the box). No Thanks! The booth had some other items which were priced way too high for a flea market and would probably only fetch the prices asked if they were sold on Mars to some blind Martians who didn't know any better.
I decided to eat and sat down at a little food eatery at the center of this minataur's maze and had a nice grilled cheese sandwich for $2.00 and large hotdog for $2.50, both good. As I was eating, a henchman who fetches meals, change and other items for the fleamarket booths was there ordering food for himself and one of the booth owners. He started up a conversation which was fine but then went into a slew of bad and really unfunny German jokes and political jokes, and then into the everboring Calgary jokes. Unfortunately his and his master's meal took as long to cook as it took for me to eat, so it was something I and other patrons had to endure without being rude.
As I left the fleamarket, with my Atari carts, it got ever busier with more customers. The smell of Frankenfries floated through the air next to the entrance as I made may way for the fresh air of outside.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy girlfriend and I had an terrible embarrassing experience at the market today. My girlfriend requires the use of a wheelchair to get around. We were using the disabled washroom, I have been going in with her, when I can, since she went in to a bathroom alone and slipped and fell. Today when she was going someone knocked on the door and she said it was "occupied". Then someone knocked on the door again then I said the washroom was "occupied". That is when we heard people saying that there was a man and woman in the bathroom. A few minutes after that we heard a lady saying that she was going to use her keys to come in to the bathroom AFTER we both yelled that she was OK, there was nothing wrong. The security guard seemed more worried that we were in there doing nefarious deeds that going to the washroom. After the banged on the door again asking if anything was wrong my girlfriend gave up trying to go to the bathroom and we left the bathroom. She said she never felt so embarrassed as she was today for a long time. This is how Queen Mary Market treats the disabled with no patience and with distrust.
Isn't that ironic that you heard, through the metal door, that the washroom was "occupied", you also heard, through the metal door, that there was a male and a female in there, and yo heard, through the metal door, that we were not in there for the 20 minutes that you said we were. But somehow you were not able to hear, through the metal door that we were okay and we didn't have a problem in there. You should be ashamed for treating disabled people the way you do. No...
