While the park here is beautiful in its own way, dog owners seem to be rather careless with their dogs' behavior and refuse to address them and this is a general observation based on a few visits. There was an incident today when another man's dog went after my dog twice with all its teeth baring, pinning my dog, and biting him hard enough for him to welp repeatedly and the owner did not even seem to be bothered by it. With hands in his pocket he just walked around completely indifferent to the incident even after when his dog attacked mine the second time! He did not even leash his dog even when I yelled at him to leash it as he ignored the whole incident only for another dog owner to pass by me to say that a "bark" is not an attack. And this passerby was not even at the scene of the incident. It's an attack only when your dog is attacked I suppose!I presume some dog owners are rather daft and cannot tell the difference. I do not understand how when a dog gets into a predatory stance, hair standing, ears up, all teeth bearing, and biting repeatedly and turning around to have another go at my dog is a "bark"?
Please put up pictures of what dogs look like when they attack as some I believe are at an elementary level of comprehension and...
Read moreBuena Vista Park is part of Edmonton's North Saskatchewan River Valley park system. It is one of a continuous line of parks in the valley that form the largest urban park system in North America. This scenic park is an oasis of wilderness in the middle of the city with vegetation that ranges from aspen and spruce forest to prairie grassland to riverside. The area is ablaze in colour in Autumn and is a mix of lower flat lands, steep valley hillsides and ravines. The lower part of the park has many trails, meadows and forested flats. The upper portion backs out onto Valleyview Drive where there are spectacular panoramas of the river valley, the city and the downtown skyline. The back end of the park is tranquil and secluded, while near the parking lot can be very busy. It is a scenic park and some of the dogs are friendly, but some are unruly and noisy. If you are looking for seclusion, head north or west of the dog park meadow. If you want to meet people and dogs, walk the meadows near the parking lot. This is an interesting park that has a mix of wilderness and more established city park lands and is a natural marvel in...
Read moreBuena Vista is the absolute best dog park in the city. The only other one that comes close is terwilligar. Lots of parking. Tons of trails. The meadow in the middle of the park is huge and a dream come true for all the ball chasers our there, and with all the woods around you there is plenty of deadfall for stick lovers. If the weather is even half decent, there will be lots of other dogs to play with. The very best part in my opinion is the river. The main trail leads to the footbridge to Harewlak Park, and there is a set of stairs leading down to the riverbank underneath the bridge. There's a big sandbar there so the smaller dogs and nonswimmers can enjoy the water, or you can take your shoes off and go join your doggo. When the water level is low enough, you can walk the riverbank all the way back to the rowing club's boatlaunch to get back to the parking lot.
Overall strongly recommend for...
