In India, food is considered to be God but this place, Sabzi Mandi at Bristol and Creditview, appears to be a โsadโ place.
The owner always carries a long face and never has a smile and the same gets translated to employees although they (employees) try their best to be courteous. The demeaner of the owner always conveyed as if it is a sort of a punishment for him to be owning the store.
I am posting this review in continuation of Dr. Parveen Gillโs review, about 3 weeks ago. I was with Dr. Gill, when we went to return the bad โMotherwala Paneerโ, an item perhaps for less than $5 and the front-line staff asked for receipt and we did not have the same as, to be honest, who keeps grocery receipts. It was not the first time that the above-noted paneer went bad before the expiry date, actually it was the 3rd time. First 2 times we gave the benefit of doubt, but 3rd time was a red flag. Hence, we went to the store not necessarily with the intention to get a replacement (as we will not purchase the same brand ever again) but to ensure the owner removed the entire batch as it was clearly bad.
The saga that ensued is worth mentioning. Front line staff called the manager/owner, who lacked complete discernment to even appreciate the fact that the people retuning the item were respected and highly regarded members of Indian diaspora in GTA and went on to accuse us of purchasing the $5 item elsewhere and returning to his store as fraudsters. What a total lack of discernment and judgement despite us introducing who we were and why we were there. i.e. to prevent other consumers getting impacted by a bad batch of products. The guy (owner) appeared to be on a power trip and seemed totally oblivious to the gravity of the conversation.
On further evaluation, we realized that Sabzi Mandi mostly carries products with stuff wherein the expiry dates can be manipulated with add on expiry date stickers that could be updated, for products like paneer and others. Sabzi Mandi never carries โBrarโ or โNanakโ paneer.
Why?????
Well, Brar and Nanak paneer manufacturers have packages with manufacturer ingrained expiry dates while Motherwala and other brands do not; making it easy for Sabzi Mandi to, perhaps, extend the expiry dates for unsold items, resulting in rotten items with negative health effects to consumers. It may be true of other products with no manufacturer ingrained expiry dates.
I hope this apparent malpractice is brought to mediaโs attention and some of the Sabzi Mandi staff will come forward as whistle blowers.
In the meantime, consumers, please be aware, for your and your familyโs health, as greedy and cheap grocery owners like Sabzi Mandi are looking at shortcuts to make profit at the expense of our and our familyโs health.
P. S. I would give a negative rating but there is no...
ย ย ย Read moreSubzi Mandi Cash & Carry in Mississauga is a well-known grocery destination for those seeking Indian and South Asian products. Located conveniently on Bristol Road West, the store offers an impressive selection of lentils, spices, snacks, frozen goods, and fresh produce. Their variety makes it easy to find traditional ingredients, including marinated meats and ready-to-cook items. The store is generally clean, well-lit, and organized, making for a pleasant shopping experience.
One of the key highlights is the in-store restaurant offering popular Indian dishes. However, reviews are mixed, with some enjoying the food while others raised concerns about hygiene and food freshness. Prices at Subzi Mandi are comparable to other South Asian stores, though a few shoppers have noted that certain items seem overpriced. Product labeling can sometimes be inconsistent, and not all items have visible prices, which can lead to confusion.
Customer service is another area where experiences vary. While some staff members are courteous and helpful, others may come off as dismissive. The storeโs ample parking and convenient location are definite plus points, especially for families or those buying in bulk.
While Subzi Mandi excels in variety and accessibility, there is room for improvement in product freshnessโparticularly produce and meat quality. Overall, it remains a solid choice for South Asian groceries, especially if you double-check dates and deals. With better attention to pricing transparency and consistent customer service, it could easily become the go-to store for ethnic groceries in...
ย ย ย Read more๐๐๐ (3/5 Stars) Subzi Mandi is a very crowded ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ grocery store, especially during weekends or evenings, so be prepared to navigate through busy aisles. Despite the hustle and bustle, it offers a huge variety of Indian groceries ๐๐ซ๐พ โ from fresh vegetables and spices to packaged snacks and specialty items, making it a go-to spot for Indian cooking ๐ฅ๐ฒ. However, it can be quite pricy ๐ธ compared to other stores like FreshCo or No Frills, even for Indian groceries. If youโre looking for bargains, this might not be your first choice. The cleanliness ๐งน๐งผ could definitely be improved, as some sections feel a bit cluttered and need better maintenance. Another downside is the billing process ๐๐ณ. The counters are really slow, and with long lines, it can test your patience โณ. Staff seem friendly but sometimes overwhelmed due to the constant crowd. On the positive side, there are free parking spots ๐๐ ฟ๏ธ available nearby, which is a big relief in a busy area, but finding a spot can still be tricky during peak hours. Overall, Subzi Mandi is good for finding authentic Indian groceries ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฅฌ๐ , but the experience is a bit overcrowded, slightly overpriced, and slow. If they improve cleanliness, speed at billing, and store organization, this place could easily become a 4 or 5-star destination! A decent choice if you want variety and authenticity, but expect the crowds and higher...
