Bate Island — Local services in Ottawa

Best waterfront location viewing experience and waterfront parking spot anywhere around Ottawa. I have looked all up and down the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal, and driven to countless spots, and this so far takes the cake.

On the east side you have the rapids both north and south, hearing the rushing of the waves while you have your picnic or have a chat. On the very eastern corner you have possibly one of the best viewpoints for the Ottawa riverside scenery, both during day and night time.

However, enter the west side for a piece of tranquility. The water here tend to be much calmer than the west side. On really quiet early mornings, it can almost seem like a glass mirror reflecting the sky. It's definitely one of the best times to come here, if you can manage to wake up early.

Great place to take in a bit of nature without leaving the city. Nice fishing spot, but do be careful if you're wading in. The current can be EXTREMELY deceptive and can easily sweep you away, no matter how strong a swimmer you are. I recommend going in no deeper than up to your knees. Have fun...
