I’ve been to this Candy Store lots throughout the years while passing through. The selection has always been great & the workers were always kind. Today, I purchased several items and wanted to try some as soon as I got into the car. I noticed one of my items was 2 months passed the best before date & because I was just outside, I went back inside to ask to exchange it. Upon entry, I explained how the candy was expired and I wanted to pick a new one. The cashier explained that she did not know what to do as she was new and so someone else chimed in. She proceeded to tell me in a hostile tone to “use the correct terminology” and that “candy cannot expire”. I’m aware that there is a difference between “expire” and “best before”, though upon returning I was not thinking thoroughly about terminology. Additionally, I am aware it is not illegal to sell products past their best before dates, but as a consumer I do have the right to decide if I want to consume it. As the candy store can be a little expensive due to importing fees and such, I didn’t want to spend my money on something that could be of lesser quality when other options were available. Thankfully, I was able to exchange it, but with a different candy (due to all the rest also being past the best before date). Likely will not go out of my...
Read moreOne might be forgiven for assuming that a candy store would be children and family friendly right? Perhaps not.
First, don’t plan to bring a stroller for your littles. It’s forbidden.
Accidentally drop a gummy bear? Rest assured it will be picked up and added to the very prominent display intended to scold the clumsiness of their customers. (For real, I didn’t make this up.🙄)
If your three year old desperately needs use of a bathroom (even after you just spent over $150 on candy and ice cream) no luck. You are literally told to try to find a more accommodative business in town. It’s abundantly clear that as far as this establishment is concerned, your child is welcome to soil themself. We had no other choice than to let him relieve himself in the vacant lot across the street.
As a final observation, it’s worth noting that in comparison to many other fine ice cream parlours in the area, they are particularly stingy on their scoop size.
It’s clear that there are many other establishments that are willing to work harder for your business. We won’t be in a...
Read moreGreat nostalgic location that is a must-visit as a destination or just driving through. Everywhere I turned, I saw a candy that reminded me of my parents or my friends from elementary days. There is a candy or chocolate to tickle every fancy. I'm always a glutton for Aussie licorice. There are interesting finds like white chocolate covered gummy bears and candy coated sunflower seeds. There are various fans/bottles of pop with unique flavors. After grabbing our treats, we went down the street for dinner then doubled back for dessert ... ice cream! The staff remembered us and welcomed us with open arms. A single scoop is $6. Upgrade to a waffle cone for $1 or a gourmet waffle cone (with chocolate or sprinkles) for $2. Even the ice cream tokens are vibrant and colorful! Don't forget to look up ... they have a vintage stash of collectibles including a massive collection of M&M memorabilia in the rafters. There's even a section of sugar free candy for diabetics. Pop in for a minute, and get...
