Thanks to fUber's uck-ups we arrived at Aquitania over an hour late for our 3pm tour & tasting. Valentina tried to fit us in to a later tour, but no luck. Curiously the vast majority of the tours appear to be conducted in Portuguese, not Spanish or English. [I apologize if I have confused peoples' names.) We discussed our wine preferences with Valentina who recommended a Lazuli CabSauv and Paul Bruno CabSauv. She then brought a tasting glass of each - we liked them well enough to buy a bottle of each. Based on her recommendations we bought two bottles of Sol de Sol unoaked, non-malolactic Chardonnay, and a bottle of a Sol de Sol Sauvignon Blanc supposedly devoid of of the dreaded NZ Marlborough Countyish vegetal asparagus, bell pepper and cut grass abomination. Valentina then rescheduled our tour and tasting for a few days later at no additional charge. Aquitania is a small, boutique winery, with a huge focus on customer friendless. What an incredible tour at Viña Aquitana! We ended up having a private tour with just me and my son, and it was absolutely fantastic.
Our guide, Valentina, was lovely, knowledgeable, and so hospitable. She explained the history of the vineyard and the winemaking process in such clear and easy-to-understand detail. As someone who loves wine but doesn't know much about it, I learned so much! She made it all very accessible.
The wines themselves were superb. We tried 4 of their premium wines, which were all excellent. I now have a new favorite! It's also great to know they focus on organic production.
The beautiful plate of nuts and cheese was a perfect accompaniment. And the setting... just breathtaking with the Andes Mountains as your backdrop. It truly completes the experience.
Logistics: We booked directly with them and took an Uber from Santiago, which worked out perfectly.
Highly, highly recommended for an unforgettable and personal wine...
Read moreFor any other gents reading this who are considering Vina Aquitania as a possible location to propose - go for it. Beautiful location and once under the influence of the red grape you'll have the extra confidence required. Staff members were excellent and more than happy to take pictures, guide us to the terrace after the tour etc. I'd also pre-purchased a bottle of their sparkling wine (highly recommend) as a toast. They allowed us to stay an extra hour past closing time and brought us some meats and cheeses to enjoy with our bottle.
To anyone else considering booking the tour - also go for it. See all the other 5* reviews but in short, we found Valentina to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of the vineyard and wine making process. The wine tasting was exquisite, we particularly enjoyed...
