A temple and garden complex with an impressive pagoda, this serves as the focal point of the ancient Suzhou neighbourhood of narrow streets and whitewashed walls. Take the time to explore the gardens and temple buildings. They are beautiful, extensive and free to visit (a pleasant surprise in China). There is a pond with ancient bridges, rockery to climb on and lots of photo opportunist young women in traditional costume. Pro-Tip: The area around the temple is a maze of ancient streets, shops and residences. So much to see here and you can use the pagoda to regain your bearings if you get lost. One of my favourite locations in China, easy walking distance from Suzhou Railway Station and the price cannot be beat. Be prepared to spend several hours here, at least.

The North Pagoda is a fabulous place to spend a few quiet hours away from the busy streets of Su Zhou. You can not climb up into the pagoda however can go up close to it. There are also English and Chinese instructions on how to gain good fortune at the base of the pagoda. The pagoda is set in lovely gardens and has out buildings where you can quietly pray to an array of Buddhist gods. Please be respectful of the surroundings as it is a working temple and people do use it pray. It is free to enter and opens at 8.30 am. Closes at 4pm

La sua base ha una struttura ottagonale, e la torre si innalza per nove piani, raggiungendo un'altezza totale di 76 metri. Le doppie falde del tetto e gli angoli aggettanti sono simili a quelli della Pagoda Liuhe di Hangzhou. La base e le pareti esterne sono in mattoni, mentre le balaustre sono in pietra e le falde e i corrimani che circondano la struttura sono in legno. Salire in cima alla pagoda offre una vista panoramica della città vecchia e nuova. Da un lato, puoi ammirare la Collina della Tigre, mentre dall'altro, i grattacieli fuori dalle mura della città antica. Inoltre, nei dintorni ci sono numerose case tipiche cinesi imbiancate a calce. Fare il giro della pagoda per 3 volte in senso orario porterà equilibrio e pace.
