The road is well paved though windy, and the views are stunning. There is a cost of $15 which is well worth it, especially if this is going to the roads. They do not take credit card, so be ready with colons or dollars. After you enter, the road splits left to a higher elevation above the clouds. Go here first to get an overview. You might feel winded climbing the 1 flight of stairs of the structure with the overlook. My daughter had to use her inhaler. With too many clouds you won't be able to see much, but it is really quite an experience to be that high up. As the clouds cleared for us we were able to see the craters. Next, drive back and take the other road to the parking lot. We had a clear day around noon and saw the most breath-taking view in my life. You can walk along and in the "smaller" crater, which was a lot of fun for us. The gift shop is really nice with coffee for a small cost. Had we planned we would have brought a picnic. The bathrooms are super clean. And remember it gets cold up there, it was 51 degrees the day we went, plus some wind (while it was 80 in San Jose). Check the weather and try to plan to go on a less cloudy day so you can really enjoy the...
Read moreI was here with "Willy Tours", oct 3 2022. -We were delayed getting to the top because of car problems, 1 hour delay. The blue sky turned to clouds by the time we got up there.
-Couldnt see anything from the top observation deck, just clouds, there is a structure up there to get a good view, but clouds.
-We also went to the lower observation area and path, there is a building and washrooms and parking lot at the entrance to this. then a path leading between the 2 old craters, to the main crater. At this time of year there was no water in the crater, no blue water lake. It was easier to see things here, less clouds or the clouds moved through in groups, so it would clear perfectly for a min or 2.
-Nothing too spectacular with the clouds, but still a good experince. Its also the tallest volcano in costa rica at 3500meters.
-The drive up the volcano is scenic, with spots to stop and take pictures of the area, citys. you can see the san jose stadium from the road. Farms along the way and driving though clouds.

Read moreWhat a beautiful volcano! This is by far the best place I’ve visited that’s managed by SINAC. You need to buy your ticket online in advance, and once you’re there, you’ll have access to two different, wide viewpoints. I left my car parked near the road before entering the park, so I’m not sure about the parking fees.
The first viewpoint is on the highest peak, offering the most stunning view — you can even see the bottom of the caldera. It was a bit cloudy when I visited, but the view was still breathtaking. There were no staff members around, so I was able to fly my drone without any issues. The second viewpoint is larger, but the view isn’t as impressive.
The best part was that you can take as much time as you want to walk around and take photos. No one is there to rush you, unlike at Poas Volcano, which made it much more enjoyable. I was really happy with my...
