Mirador Volcán Irazú — Local services in Santa Rosa

Oct 3 2022 When the tour took us to Irazu, we first came here, the highest lookout point. But we were delayed by 1 hour because of car problems and the clear blue sky earlier turned to clouds by the time we reached the top. So we could see nothing, only very breif glimps of the crater walls between clouds. But could not see the surrounding volcanos as the guide said we could on a clear day.

Its dependent on nature, and try to get there early in morning. Still a nice place, and the highest in costa rica.

Brilliant views and an easy walk to get to the crater from the car park. Only $15 pp and kids free (under 5 from what we understood). There is also another route up a dirt track right to the top which we went up in our 4/4 - didn't look like it was much visited but was another view point. Clouds obscured the main view over Costa Rica but apparently if clear you can see Arenal, Pacific coast, Caribbean coast, Nicaragua volcanoes and into Panama. El Volcán Irazú es el volcán más alto de la Cordillera Volcánica Central y también el volcán de mayor elevación de Costa Rica, alcanzado 3.432 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Localizado a 53 km de San José, capital de Costa Rica, con acceso fácil por carretera pavimentada en su totalidad Es un sitio de gran visitación turística y un ejemplo muy estudiado por científicos como mega edificio estrato volcánico. Actualmente activo, básicamente por actividad fumarólica. Su última gran erupción data del año 1963, con altas erupciones de elementos piroclásticos y cenizas las cuales llegaron a cientos de kilómetros hacia el oeste del macizo adentrándose incluso en el Océano Pacífico. Su belleza natural es imponente por la anchura y profundidad de sus cráteres y la gran evidencia de materiales expulsados en erupciones previas, así como por sus lagunas cratéricas intermitentes. A sus alrededores se encuentra actividad turística variada, que incluye hospedaje, alimentación, senderismo, observación geológica, observación de flora y fauna, camping, cabalgatas, ciclismo de montaña, ciclismo recreativo y de ruta, motocross, motociclismo recreativo y touring. Se puede encontrar actividades acuáticas para vehículos de motor, vela y remo, rafting, kayakismo. Así como rappel, canopy, canyoning y otros deportes extremos.
