I really wanted to like this place - it is the original, after all. Re-opened after many years and it's famous. To be sure, the interior is gorgeous, the pictures of past and present patrons add atmosphere. Yet it feels somewhat corporate, almost like a sports bar next to a mall, with its flat screen TVs over the bar. At least on a weekday afternoon, it really felt like any other American bar, air-conditioned to the point that it hurts. Read moreSloppy Joe's is considered an iconic bar by some. Although I like the decor of the interior, the atmosphere is lacking and the cocktails are average at best. I stuck around long enough to get an overall feel, and was relatively disappointed. I enjoy the neighbourhood and the culture of the surrounding area. I also enjoy walking through the bar and seeing all the artifacts from the old days. Photos of Frank Sinatra and other American cultural icons are housed in large glass cabinets.
