If I could give more than 5 stars for Jebena Tour and Travel and Mehammed, I would. He was the most excellent tour guide and made our experience in Ethiopia absolutely unforgettable.

My family and I traveled to Addis, for a friend's wedding, but in between wedding activities, I knew that I wanted to see not only the city, but also the Ethiopian countryside. I reached out to about 4 different tour companies, and everything about how Mehammed communicated, the suggestions he provided regarding tours, and how he operated, made me feel comfortable and excited about hiring his company.

We were not at all disappointed. Mehammed organized multiple day trips for us, in and around Addis, and also an overnight trip that included visiting Abijatta-Shala National Park and staying at Lake Ziway, during which we saw Gazelles, Ostriches, warthogs, lots of birds, and Hippos (an absolute highlight of the trip). Mehammed is a wealth of information about Ethiopia, including history, culture, politics, current events, and the beauty of Ethiopia. He loves his country immensely and is very excited to share all the information with his clients. He also has a deeply engaging and funny personality and makes you feel immensely comfortable with him. My 11 year old daughter was also on the trip with us, and he was excellent about communicating and joking with her, in a way that made her feel completely at ease. He answered all her questions and truly engaged with her, such that she never got bored on any of the tours.

Our driver was Neway and he was incredible. Driving in Ethiopia is quite a challenge and I could never do it, but he expertly navigated us through the city and countryside, including on many difficult dirt roads and around animals, cars, and people.

I cannot recommend Jebena Tour and Travel enough. You will not be at all disappointed if you hire them. I originally came to Ethiopia, because of our friend's wedding, knowing very little about the country and being told, I should not leave Addis. But after spending four days with Mehemmed and learning about the country and hearing all the wonderful places that Ethiopia has to visit, I now want to come back at some point in the future, and plan a much longer trip with Mehemmed, to travel throughout other parts of Ethiopia.

Five stars is not enough for Mehammed and Jebena Tour and Travel Ethiopia. My wife, daughter, and I have traveled a fair amount in Central and South America and typically do not use tour guides. This was our first trip for all of us to Africa and Ethiopia. We wanted to have someone help us navigate a culture and language that we do not know and to let us have an authentic Ethiopian experience. I could have not asked for a better guide and companion than Mehammed (Mo). Mo has a true love of his country and an enthusiastic desire to share that love with you. He also has a deep understanding of more than just the tourist sites. He can discuss diverse topics such as food, the different religious practices of the people, the flora and fauna, the political and economic issues, and the list goes on and on. We spent many hours in pleasant discussions about all of the above. One of Mo's greatest skills is he can relate all of the above to both adults and children of all ages. Often I would see my 11 year old and Mo discussing a particular flower, bird, or aspect of the particular culture of the area we were visiting.We spent several days in and outside of Addis from traveling through the vast market of Addis to the park lands in the south. Neway, our driver, added to the enjoyment. He also had helpful and informative comments about the things we were seeing. He expertly navigated Addis traffic as well as the many donkeys, cows, goats and dogs that shared the roads in the country side outside of Addis. I always felt safe with him behind the wheel even while navigating paths through the bush that would have been nearly impossible on foot much less in the Land Cruiser expertly piloted by him. Mehammed was an absolute pleasure to deal with — friendly, professional, and incredibly attentive. His quick replies and constant availability were impressive; no matter the time, early morning or late at night, he was always ready to help with a smile.

He’s also surrounded himself with a fantastic team. Eyayaw, Cris, and Wende went far beyond their roles — calling them just drivers and a cook doesn’t do them justice. They were always there when we needed them (and often before we even realized we did). Their proactive attitude and genuine kindness made every day smoother and more enjoyable.

And Mamush, our guide — what a personality! It felt like he knew everyone in Ethiopia. He had this amazing ability to connect with people everywhere we went, spreading good energy and making sure we always had the best experience possible. He constantly anticipated our needs, getting things sorted before we even had to ask.

What stood out most was how well the whole team worked together. You could tell they truly enjoyed what they were doing — laughing, joking, and creating such a positive atmosphere. It made the trip not only seamless but also deeply human and memorable.
