L'ARTISTIQUE Centre d'Arts et de Culture - Espace Ferrero — Local services in Nice

This free-to-enter gallery has rapidly become one of my favourite hidden treasures in Nice. It is a small gallery and conference venue, a couple of blocks away from the Nice Etoile shopping centre. It’s not really hidden, but it is little-known. It displays art by the Niçois artists Arman, Ben and César, and others. A unique work displaying giant mock insects is especially fun.

The whole thing is enjoyable so long as you are happy with modern art, though there are some classically wonderful paintings – see a few photos illustrating the range of kinds of object. Several of the artworks seem to be from the "this concept made be laugh" school. Labels (in French) allow you to work out who made what for most – but definitely not all – of the works on display. In other words, the curation is like in every other French museum I’ve experienced: “could easily be better”.

Refreshingly, there is no gift shop or catering; it really is that small. Most visitors will find one hour is enough to see all the displays.

It is housed in a beautiful Art Deco building originally erected for a group of artists (hence its name). worth seeing, inside and out (don’t forget to peep into the conference room). Annoyingly, it is closed in August. I’ve always found the staff friendly...

L'Artistique est plus qu'un lieu d'exposition ; c'est un centre vibrant d'échange et d'apprentissage, ouvert à tous, des chercheurs aux simples amateurs d'art, désireux de s'immerger dans le foisonnement culturel...

What a fun and quirky little museum! It's quick to visit, charming, and it's free! If you're a fan of contemporary art and some dadaism tickles your funny bone, I strongly recommend a visit.
