The Promenade du Papillon is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Nice. As a nature enthusiast, I was delighted to discover this stunning park, which offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Walking along the Promenade du Papillon is a truly serene experience, with its lush greenery, colorful flowers, and the gentle sound of water flowing through its streams. The park is well-maintained and clean, making it a pleasant place to spend an afternoon or enjoy a picnic with friends and family.
One aspect that detracts from the overall experience, however, is the lack of facilities within the park. While there are benches and picnic tables scattered throughout the park, there are no restrooms or drinking fountains available, which can be inconvenient for visitors.
Despite this minor criticism, I highly recommend visiting the Promenade du Papillon for anyone seeking a peaceful nature walk or a relaxing afternoon picnic. The park is a true hidden gem, offering a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city.
What sets this park apart is the beauty of its butterfly garden, which is home to dozens of different species of butterflies. The garden is a truly unique and memorable experience, and it's clear that the staff and volunteers take great pride in maintaining it.
I would like to suggest that the park could benefit from adding more amenities, such as restrooms and drinking fountains, to make it more accessible and convenient for visitors. Additionally, offering guided tours or educational programs about the butterfly garden could help attract more visitors and promote awareness of the importance of conservation efforts.
Overall, I am grateful to have discovered the Promenade du Papillon and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Nice. I am likely to come back, and would love to see even more effort put into maintaining and enhancing this beautiful natural retreat in the heart...

The centerpiece is the large water mirror with its 128 gentle jets—it’s mesmerizing to watch, especially as children splash around, and the evening lights add a serene magic . There’s also a mist zone that offers a cool, calming break on hot days .
Even though it’s a popular route—with families, couples, joggers, and cyclists—it never felt crowded. The wide paths, shady spots, benches, and soft water sounds made it an ideal place to pause, breathe, and enjoy a bit of calm in the city center. Perfect for a laid-back stroll or a moment of...
Read moreThe newly opened (Nov 2013) Promenade du Paillon adjacent to the wonderfully revamped Place Massena completes a 10 year transformation of the city. Gone is the ugly multi-storey car-park, MacDonald's drive through and bus station which used to obscure the surrounding Belle Epoque buildings and blight the city centre. Now the vista has opened up with a 1.2km ribbon park beginning with a spectacularly and enchanting 3000m2 fountain garden that children and adults frolic through and get COMPLETELY drenched in, to beautiful olive groves peppered with carved wooden climbing frames for young children. It is constantly policed and very family friendly. The change in character of this area is amazing. Surely one of the best urban parks in the world....
