I spent a lovely afternoon wandering along the Promenade du Paillon, and it truly is a peaceful oasis in the heart of Nice. Lined with hundreds of trees and beautifully landscaped plantings from around the world, it feels like a quiet escape amid the city bustle .

The centerpiece is the large water mirror with its 128 gentle jets—it’s mesmerizing to watch, especially as children splash around, and the evening lights add a serene magic . There’s also a mist zone that offers a cool, calming break on hot days .

Even though it’s a popular route—with families, couples, joggers, and cyclists—it never felt crowded. The wide paths, shady spots, benches, and soft water sounds made it an ideal place to pause, breathe, and enjoy a bit of calm in the city center. Perfect for a laid-back stroll or a moment of...

The newly opened (Nov 2013) Promenade du Paillon adjacent to the wonderfully revamped Place Massena completes a 10 year transformation of the city. Gone is the ugly multi-storey car-park, MacDonald's drive through and bus station which used to obscure the surrounding Belle Epoque buildings and blight the city centre. Now the vista has opened up with a 1.2km ribbon park beginning with a spectacularly and enchanting 3000m2 fountain garden that children and adults frolic through and get COMPLETELY drenched in, to beautiful olive groves peppered with carved wooden climbing frames for young children. It is constantly policed and very family friendly. The change in character of this area is amazing. Surely one of the best urban parks in the world....
