Archaeological Museum of Kilkis — Local services in Kilkis Municipality

A small museum, handicap accessible, with a very interesting collection from different time periods and a beautiful garden full of artifacts, all discovered in the area. It is worth it to mention that an important reason to visit this particular museum is the most outstanding find from the Archaic period in the whole prefecture of Kilkis, a kouros found in 1966 in Europos. The kouros type, and the texture of the marble indicate that it was made by an insular, probably Cycladic, workshop. It may be regarded as one of the later examples of kouroi, because the arms and legs are almost free of the body. The hair is short and not in the usual style of other Kouroi. It was obviously the grave marker, according to the custom of the time, of a prominent citizen of Europos, either a local man or a colonist from southern Greece who settled in the city. Μάλιστα, το Μουσείο: α. έχει τρομερά ενδιαφέροντα προγράμματα για παιδιά (έως και προσομοίωση ανασκαφής -ΕΠΙΤΕΛΟΥΣ!!) β. Ετοιμάζει ειδική βράβευση για τους πολίτες που παραδίδουν αρχαιότητες (είναι πολλοί και πολλές) ως μια ηθική επιβράβευση για το φιλότιμο τους. γ. Έχει πολύ ενδιαφέρουσες αρχαιότητες δ. Αξίζει 1000% και πρέπει να το επισκέπτεστε...

Petit musée présentant de belles pièces de marbre. À noter : quelques petits bronzes découverts suite à la guerre des tranchées du fait du creusement de ces dernières. On est tout près du front d'Orient. Intéressante petite expo temporaire...
