Average level of fitness needed. Plenty of water and good shoes help. Here is how we planned our trip. It was amazing and would do it over and over again. From the Ischia port about 1 minutes walk is the bus station. We bought day trip tickets for 4.50 euros pp. Of the many buses you can take CD buses go clockwise and CS buses go anticlockwise. We took the CD bus to Fontana stop. It took about 40 mins on the bus. The Fontana bus stop is right outside a church. Its hard to miss since there is a dazzling white stone massive statue of Jesus. To start the hike we followed the road. Left from the church or with the statue to your back its the road straight ahead. Past the two small shops. A few meters down the road there are signs on the wall. Up ahead is the extremely steep begining of the hike. From here for about 1.5 km the roads are pretty wide and paved. Its quiet with a few vespas and cars driving through. After a while you will get to a bend where on your right is a small car park. On the left is a small restaurant and next to it the path further up. After this point onwards its not possible to drive. It is also not recommended for small children. As you walk further up the road gets narrow and fastly becomes a dirt road. The further you go the narrower the path gets. The terrain gets uneven and you really have to watch your footing. At the top there is a restaurant where you can drink and eat. At the side of the restaurant is a small rocky, steep slope. If you climb that then in a few minutes you will be at the extreme peak of the mountaint. There is a flagpole there. Be very very careful at the peak cliffs as it’s extremely dangerous if you miss your footing. Enjoy your hard earned beautiful breathtaking view. Climbing down is less time and energy consuming as...
Read moreGo all the way to the top if you’re up for it and have sure footing! The first hill up the long concrete road is steep, flanked by lovely local plants on either side. The dirt path up the mountain is also steep and sometimes Barry, sometimes large rocks, but not impossible (I am active and strong, but am not a Cross Fit junkie, and there were a wide variety of folks at the top). The very top of the rock might be a lot for those who are afraid of heights, but there is a guard rail to hold for balance and the view is absolutely beautiful. I got a limone arance mista juice at the top restaurant and had a heart lunch / dessert at La Porta di Agartha Ristorante afterward (a bit further back down from the tip top) which I highly highly recommend. I started around 11:30am-ish and took my time, and by the time I got to Agartha restaurant it was...
Read moreHighest point of ischia. Incredible 360 view of the island. You can drive to Miscillo sapori and park there (4euro for car, 2 euro for scooter). From there +- 30min hike till the top. Steep and small track, but doable. Maybe not for children under 8 - 10. Go through the restaurant on the top to do the final climb of the rocky point. There is a second viewing a bit lower, go through the inside of the restaurant to reach it. Heavy walking shoes not required, but don’t do it on flip flops either. Alternative route starts in fontana. From here starts the much longer walk to the top (+- 3km, but much more altimeters). We drove to miscillo sapori by scooter. Steep and curvy roads, bur doable. Bit of the beaten track. Afterwards had diner at garten di agartha. Very...
