I can’t recommend this stay enough. The property itself is stunning - quiet and peaceful, surrounded by beautiful gardens, with the rolling hills of Tuscany in the background. Each room is the perfect size for a couple, containing all modern ammenities with rustic touches to match the vibes - everything is very clean, large comfortable bed and a huge bathroom to enjoy a cosy, relaxing stay. The host Raffaele is fantastic - friendly, welcoming and really took care of all our needs. He was extremely prompt with communication, gave us local recommendations, took care of making any reservations (including advising best parking options making things easy to navigate) and even brought more refreshments to our room upon request! He really goes above and beyond to make your stay as easy and relaxing as possible. We also organised to do a cooking class on site with the chef, Carlotta, which has truly been the highlight of our Euro trip! Carlotta is not only an amazing chef, but she is so warm, friendly and encouraging - she has such a good energy and we had so much fun learning how to make pasta etc and felt very lucky to be able to do that in an intimate setting. You even get copies of the recipes and an apron to keep afterwards. The town of Montepulciano is very cute - lots of history, picturesque views, old buildings, small winding paths, but also has a shopping centre etc which is very handy. It’s about a 15 min drive from the accomodation with many parking options (you can pay by card) so you can easily drive to town then walk around. We only stayed 2 nights so didn’t have too much time to explore, so I would recommend at least another night. The de Ricci winery tour was a highlight, and an amazing way to get some town history and enjoy some Italian wine during our short stay. If you’re looking for a place to switch off and enjoy an authentic Tuscan experience, this is the...
Read morePlease read: Our experience with Merigge was unique and one of the most meaningful parts of our trip to Italy. I had made a big mistake and had unintentionally cancelled my husbands and my reservations with Merigge that was suppose to be for 4 nights. On arrival to Merigge we discovered this quickly which resulted in massive tears because I was in another country and was afraid we would have no place to stay during those 4 nights. However, Raffaele took our problem into his own hands and solved it. By the grace of God, he luckily had 2 nights available the following 2 days and he found us a nearby hotel that was open on Palm Sunday to stay for that night. He was merciful towards my mistake and made me feel like family. Our stay at Merigge was a Tuscan dream that provided you the real taste of Tuscany us tourists deeply desire to experience. The stay was provided with fresh farm-to-fork breakfasts, delicious lunches (if you decide to try) by their amazing home-chef, as well as gorgeous views of the valley, vineyards and a city view of Montepulciano. The rooms faced a beautiful and healing view of their pool, cottage and lavender fields. Lastly, the rooms themselves are incredible. Try to get the room with the bathtub! Raffaele also helped with booking wine tours, restaurants, and other excursions which made it feel like a nice vacation. You can tell that Raffaele and his wife have worked hard and understand the professionalism of customer service, quality, hospitality, and generosity. We highly recommend staying at Merigge if you are coming to Tuscany. Ps. The dirt road is not that bad as the other reviews say it is. It was easy to drive on and a perfect/gorgeous 5 minute drive from...
Read moreWe originally booked a two night stay with friends at the Merigge, but due to a serious family illness it was then necessary to cancel the booking. Raffaele was very understanding and, despite the booking being non-refundable, offered in our particular circumstances to send us a voucher to cover most of the booking fee for use at a later date.
Two days later we enquired whether Raffaele could accommodate a change in the booking dates and an increase to four nights, if we were able to secure earlier flights. Thankfully, he managed to arrange this for us and also an extra night for our friends.
During our stay we were totally spoilt by both Raffaele and Tiziana, who both worked very hard, making arrangements and accommodating us to ensure that we did manage to get an enjoyable holiday before returning home to deal with a difficult situation. We should also mention their son, Bryan, who helped take care of us, and Carlotta, their chef. They are all such lovely, kind and very caring people.
The accommodation is very well maintained and the rooms thoughtfully renovated, with attention to detail, in keeping with the beautiful surroundings. The pool looks really inviting, but perhaps not in February! We obviously need to return in sunnier months!
We were very fortunate to have chosen this particular venue for our short break in Tuscany and to have encountered Raffaele and Tiziana, who are exceptional hosts. We cannot recommend the Merigge...
