We were caught in a thunderstorm in this area so we stayed in the resting area. It was so windy and rainy that morning (2am, 30mph wind, 6 degrees at least accdg to mt. fuji weather). I was shivering really hard. A lot of people backed out but I was so tired, wet, and cold so I decided to buy some noodles. The noodles didnt help. There was a signage in front of the door saying "For stay only" but there were basically just 2 of us outside at that point and no climbers was inside the lobby so I stepped inside. As soon as I got in, the old man staff tapped me really hard saying "dame dame (?)", and shooed me away. He even stood there at the door to guard maybe in case I get inside again. I understand if the lobby was packed and the outside was full of people trying to get inside but it was just me, shivering, and cold. And I was even willing to pay just for me to have a place to warm up. I never experienced such cruelty and lack of humanity. So I hope that you, old man and the lady from the store who just watched, who were there at 2 am of Aug 27th will have a long life so you can both change your cold hearts. And also, I wish that one day, if you will be subjected to the same situation, you will receive help and kindness that you...
Read moreTried to bullet hike and made it to this hut at about 4am when the weather was frigid and altitude sickness had taken its toll. Most of the business seems to be from prebooked parties/tour groups so when I asked about staying I had to leave by 6am and I paid about $30 for a bunk. Not the cleanest or warmest but a very welcome much needed rest for acclimating to the altitude. I think after about 630 they "close up" and prepare lunch boxes for the tour groups so I couldn't get a stamp from them. Huge clearing with railing to see down and up the mountain. Above the cloud cover but distant clouds still managed to block some of the sunrise. There's 2, maybe 3 more huts visible and pretty close above this one. Decent store for food or whatever. Also there's a cut across to the descending trail about 40 m up off to the left side. This would be a good place to stop the night before, maybe see the sunset and rest before hiking to the top in...
Read moreDecent place to rest the night in preparation for the night climb to the summit. Rooming is very cramped to fit the amount of people making the climb every day. However, you can expect that at every hut on the mountain. It's a little uncomfortable, and the walls are very thin so it can be a bit noisy if you have poor company, but it was an okay...
