My immigration experience at Fukuoka Airport was the worst I’ve ever had during my numerous trips to Japan. As an international traveler, I have visited Japan many times, including cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. All of my previous experiences were pleasant and left me with a deep appreciation for Japanese hospitality. However, my experience at Fukuoka Airport was extremely disappointing.

During the immigration process, the attitude of the staff made me feel disrespected and even raised concerns about whether I was being treated unfairly due to my nationality. When I tried to communicate with the staff, they displayed indifference and impatience, completely lacking the politeness and professionalism I have come to expect in Japan. This behavior was in stark contrast to the warmth and respect I experienced at other airports in Japan.

After the incident, I submitted a formal complaint to Fukuoka Airport and initially received a reply stating that the staff involved had been “counseled.” However, I believe such a superficial response is far from sufficient to address the issue, especially given the possibility that this involved nationality-based discrimination. I followed up to request further explanations and details on improvement measures, but to this day, Fukuoka Airport has not responded. This lack of follow-up demonstrates an irresponsible attitude toward passenger feedback.

Additionally, I found that the airport’s official website lacks a clear and accessible complaint channel, making it extremely difficult for passengers to voice their concerns. For an international airport, this oversight is highly disappointing.

As a frequent visitor who deeply appreciates Japanese culture and travel, my experience at Fukuoka Airport was profoundly disheartening. I strongly urge the airport to take this matter seriously, reevaluate the behavior and training of its staff, and establish a transparent and convenient complaint mechanism. Passengers’ dignity and rights should be respected, not dismissed with superficial responses.

If you plan to enter Japan through Fukuoka Airport, I advise you to be cautious of potential issues. I hope my experience can prompt the airport to make meaningful changes and prevent other travelers from encountering the...

Reading through the past reviews, I was expecting a vast desert wasteland with absolutely nothing, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Whatever happened with the long check-in lines a few months ago was thankfully not the situation today. Both check-in and security were very quick, and there was plenty of staff for the amount of people traveling today.

I was flying out midday from the international terminal, so pretty much all shops were open except for one in a distant wing of the airport. Not much to do landside, but airside, there are a couple of eateries, a 7-Eleven, a Starbucks, and a variety of places to pick up souvenirs after the security checkpoint. There's even hiyoko manju and hakata torimon if you didn't get them elsewhere. Same as Royce potato chips and other nice things. Of course, I guess it all depends on when you're flying in/out, and whatever the closing times may be.

Went to the 7-Eleven and used a Mastercard to pay with no problem. There's a sign that says you can't combine cash & credit in one payment, but the card reader was quicker than out in the city. Granted, there's less variety, but the price for my bottle of green tea was the same as it is at other 7-Elevens (JPY 138).

It's a great mid-sized airport if you keep your expectations low. It doesn't have a sprawling layout and unnecessary designer goods, but at least it's got some food and some shopping! I've been to extremely small airports with nothing at all but...

Such a pleasant little airport—compact, efficient, and actually quite pretty compared to many other international airports in Asia. Immigration was smooth and quick, plenty of seating areas, and a few lounges to relax in. Pro tip: take the metro to the last stop, Fukuoka Airport, then follow the exit for the free shuttle to the international terminal. It’s super quick, a short walk, and way easier than expected!

*Not a well managed airport* While it's located very close to the city centre (the only reason for the 2nd star), the subway only takes you to the domestic terminal. You'll need to take a shuttle bus from the domestic terminal to get to the international terminal. It is free, but the queue is long. Allocate additional time as you may not be able to get on the first shuttle bus that comes. It took 30mins to get from hakata station to the international terminal and that's by getting on the first bus. The international terminal is extremely small. There are only 2 restaurants. I arrived 3 hours before the flight and were shocked to find out that the baggage drop counter only opens 2 hours before! However, it's best to start queuing early anyway, because a long long queue has already formed outside of the check in area along the walk way, by the time I got back to the check in counter at 2.5hours before flight time. I absolutely cannot comprehend why they choose to only open the check in counter 2 hours prior. Lastly, to kill time, i bought ice cream from the cold stone creamery vending machine on 1F. To my shock, the spoons weren't provided together with the ice creams, but were supposedly located in a spoon box on the side. However, the box was empty and there were rubbish inside. Good luck eating your ice cream without a spoon.
