【布袋の大仏】 本尊の嶽薬師尊は誓願をすると病気を除き、不具を癒し、悟りへの道に到達するといわれています。 開祖は布袋町在住の故前田秀信氏で体が弱かったこともあり、御嶽薬師尊を信仰され、名古屋市内で鍼灸医を開業、評判がよく多くの人が詰めかけたという話です。 四十三歳のとき夢のお告げがあり、人々を病気の苦難から助けようと建立を決意されました。 そこで、後の世の人々に立派なものを残したいと願い、翻嶽薬師尊を勧請し、私財を投げうって教会を開くことになりました。 ときは昭和二十四年で終戦の直後、生活は困窮を極め、生きることがやっとの時代でした。 その年に地鎮祭を行い、完成まで実に五年の歳月を費やし、すべてが手作業で整地やコンクリート練りが行われ昭和二十九年二月二十四日に開眼、その日を記念し毎年春季大祭日とし賑わっています。 嶽薬師尊は「布袋の大仏」の愛称で親しまれ、高さが十八メートルで奈良東大寺の大仏よりニメートルも高く日本一を誇っています。
