I only have my trip with Japan Ski Tours three years ago to Northern Honshu (Amori+) to compare to. That trip was great. The Hokkaido Storm Chasers two weeks ago was even better! First, it had not snowed in 12 days so the first ski day we drove almost two hours. We had to traverser and hike but found stashes of powder so we were thrilled. Then we benefited by storms finally coming in and had excellent skiing every day.

One guy mapped the vertical and we seemed to do 15,000 vertical feet pretty easily most days (but two were half days).

The guides were friendly, gave excellent instructions and got us all through safely.

The hotel in Furano was not austere. It was modern, had excellent breakfasts, and a complimentary indoor/outdoor Onsen on the roof top. Otaru also had a nice hotel with an even better breakfast.

Dinners in both towns were as good as they were in Honshu, adding a lot of culture and fun.

I'm not bragging or complaining but I do some snowcat and heli trips in the US and Canada. Both my JST 7 day tours, even with air and train fare were FAR less expensive than 4-5 day tours in...

My wife and I just returned from a 19 day trip to Japan that included the 8 day Indy Tour. It was all that we hoped for and more. The total Tohoku experience far exceeded the JAPOW and foreigners found in Hokkaido on the back end of our trip. The ski areas had great snow, were fun to explore at our own pace, uncrowded, interesting and very well maintained with yummy lunches. The accommodations, breakfasts, dinners, onsens were authentically immersed in Japanese culture. The food delicious! A big shout out to Kyde our guide. She made the trip, transports, check ins, meals, luggage, all simple, seamless and fun. Truly was a sublime trip. Go! Wait, don’t, we’re going again!!!

UPDATE 2/25: We did and just got back from the 10 Day Tohoku Indy Trip. Another great experience, ditto on all above. Loved it all a second time, including Kyde who was our host again. And shout out to Chiba San our bus driver, he was awesome. The snow was spectacular, resorts fun and not crowded with tourists, lodging and meals authentic and yummy. Great experience, communication, fun and value. Thank...

We had an incredible Japanese ski experience with Japan Ski Tours. The guides were fantastic, prepared and experienced and found us fresh untracked powder every run. The snow was incredible, light, usually very deep and beautiful to ski. Even the day where we only received 3 cm of new powder, our group were the only ones skiing the trees and our guide still found us deep, untracked powder. What makes Japan Ski Tours remarkable is the entire Japanese experience. Not only are all the logistics taken care of, (hotel, transport, tickets) but the guides took us to traditional onsens after skiing and had reservations for us at interesting, reasonably priced restaurants with incredible local food. We used the lifts at a different resort every day and skied off-piste in the trees every run. There was an amazing variety throughout the trip – in terrain, onsens visited and Japanese cuisines experienced. If you are looking for the best Japanese ski tour, I highly recommend Japanese Ski Tours. We’ve used them for 2 trips and they provide the perfect Japanese...

We did the Hokkaido storm chaser tour in late January 2023, and hit a great weather window for cold temperatures and consistent light and deep snow. Based out of Furano for the first 3 days, our guides Francesca and Ryota got us the goods at Kamui ski links, Asahidake and Furano. The side country skiing was fantastic and mostly untracked. Based out of Otaru, we skied Kokasai and Kirroro (2 days). Myoko and Henrik did a fantastic job getting us to the untracked sections of the mountain. The unlimited zone at Kirroro was our favorite. The accommodations were better than advertised, the transportation was smooth and the guides (both for skiing and dining) were spot on. The best scenario is to organize your own group of 8 skiers, all with fairly equal skill level. Japan ski Tours is the way to go for a smooth and easy s powder safari. We will be back! Maybe we will try the Tohoku powder tour next time.
