ウイキベディアによるとガールズバーは２００６年の京都が発祥なっているが、私の記憶ではそれから４０年以上遡る板橋区大山駅の路地にあった店が発祥地ではないかと思う。

当時私の知り合いが会社勤めをしながら会社に内緒で夜にバーテンダーをしていた。 ところが、会社の同僚が店に来て兼職がばれ、会社側から会社をとるかバーテンダーを取るかと迫られて水商売好きの彼は迷わずバーテンダーをとった。

彼はこれを機会にお店を持つことにした。 水商売は酒と若い女性を揃えて良心的な料金でやれば、おのずと固定客がつくとの持論を持っているが、他の店との差別化を図らないと、厳しいこの業界生きていくことは難しいと考えていた。

そこで考えた。 カウンター内のバーテンダーを女性だけにして接客したらどうだろうか。 そこで、２０代の女性を３名雇い、バーテンダーとして猛特訓して開店にこじつけた。（写真）
