Ryokan Fuji — Local services in Tokyo

We stayed in this Ryokan one night to get a taste of staying in a more typical Japanese style hotel. We wished we had stayed a few nights longer.||Ryokan Fuji is located in Edogawa, a suburb of Tokyo. The ryokan is located in a suburban street and about 7 minutes walk from Koiwa Railway Station. It is also within a few minutes walk of many small eateries and shops.||Ryokan Fuji is a traditional ryokan with matting on the floors and sleeping on thin mattresses on the floor. Pillows were provided and it was very comfortable. (To be honest we thought it may be an uncomfortable night on the floor. We were wrong.)||Free wifi is available throughout the ryokan.||The ryokan requires shoes off at the foyer and slippers are provided. However these also come off in the room itself. Each room has an en-suite (western style) toilet together with a separate bathroom with provision for traditional Japanese bathing.||The hosts at all times went out of their way to be friendly, helpful and good-humoured. It was traditional Japanese hospitality at its best. ||Breakfast is not included in the tariff however it can be, at a very reasonable cost. Options are a Western or Japanese breakfast. We opted for the Japanese breakfast. I wanted to spend some time after my business trip to get a feel of a traditional japanese accomodation (with paper screens, futons, et al). It is difficult to get an accomodation like that in Omotesando or Shibuya so I travelled all the way to Koiwa. This accomodation is located around 10 mins from Koiwa station (you'll see a sign board on the road). The first thing you notice is the Japanese garden with the traditional waterfall and bamboo shoots. You enter and you are immediately greeted by the owners (an elderly couple). Don't forget to ask for the breakfast!||You are led to your room and you are immediately blown away by how well-maintained the rooms are. I had an extra bedding available as well. And not to forget, a male kimono (?) if I felt like taking the traditional experience a notch ahead! You have all the facilities you need. No complaints.||The Japanese breakfast the next day was oje of the best traditional meals I have ever had. The presentation was par excellence.
