But then, I realized that there were a lot of students like me and we really connected; I even met my girlfriend there (she lived in the same building as I). Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Gusto Café, Matsuya, etc. You'll do some excercise if you want to get to the nearest station (Kichijoji/Mitaka) You'll have the best park close to you (Inokashira Park).

I know. You'll maybe try to apply to the dorm in Komaba because it's close to Shibuya, but you'll get a better and real "japanese"...

I belonged to the first batch of students who lived in Todai Mitaka Ryo in 1993-1995. Sure, it was far from Komaba and Hongo but rent is cheap. This is not luxury living but it is ideal for Todai students who are living on a tight budget. Life here is simple, safe and comfortable. I met many life-long friends here.
