This is an excellent local Onsen that is available for the general public as well as hotel guests. The Hot Springs has two large outdoor hot baths--one more curiated with stones, and the other a deep standing pool about 4ft deep, both at about ~42C. The standing pool has a beautiful unobstructed west-facing view of the Ocean, as well as the Approach end of Naha International's Runway 36L. It also has 3 deep circular tubs for soaking, as well and chairs and matts for air-drying and cooling off. There are 2 sauna rooms--one primarily steam based, and another filled with potpourri and aromatics. The cold-water tub is nice and chilly at about 10C.
For those unfamiliar with the Onsen experience, it involves full nudity in a secure public space. There is no mingling of genders, but anyone with a Tattoo is not allowed inside the facility. Once you enter the Onsen area, you will shower and rinse yourself off before entering the Hot Baths or Sauna areas. Usually, you'll soak in the hot baths for a while, followed by either air cooling or quick cooling in the cold-water baths for a few minutes. Repeat at your leisure, but plan on spending at least ~45 minutes between all the different relaxations and resources. After drying off and reclothing, it is traditional to buy some bottled milk as a post-Sauna treat! Coffee-milk is the most bought variety, but Fruit Milks are quite tasty, as is just regular milk or their drinkable yogurts as well!
While being so close to the airport might be distracting for some, this is a must visit location and experience for anyone who loves Plane watching! Sometimes, you'll see the JASDF fighters and aircraft take off and land as well as the vast commercial traffic, and that is a special treat in and of itself! If you have never been Onsen-ing before, and don't want to leave the Island to try it on the mainland, this is a very acceptable place to try it for your first time. I...
Read moreI onsen frequently. I felt this location had ample showers, cold water to drink, and an array of hot spring types to choose from.
The deep, standing pool had rocks for the floor, which was good for circulation & simply for better grip.
They had what looked like large terracotta pots for plants but for you to sit in a singular participant.
They had a horizontal section where you could both lay in between the slots or soak in regularly.
Their salt sauna was wonderful. It was warm enough right away without needing to wait for it to warm up. I appreciated the fact you still had natural sunlight coming in. The salt to rub on you was plentiful. Some locations will run out before the end of the night, but not here!
And lastly they had a hotter sauna outside the showers. Also overlooked their natural garden outside. It was warmer than the others but everything was just beautiful and fresh.
The shampoo, in particular, was extra nice, sudsy. The conditioner was a little watered down, it felt. But everything else was more than wonderful.
Note: they had items to purchase like fresh milk or chocolate milk, along with other bath items at the front. The tickets are cheaper too, should you decide to go more than once or twice.
Cons: the noisy Chinese tourists, & some children at some point but either the parents or other customers could’ve said something if it bothered them as a whole.
Overall, still an...
Read moreDon’t even try to get into this place if you have the tiniest tattoo on you. Nada!! Non- negotiable. It’s also quite expensive: ¥1500 for weekday and ¥1700 weekend. We took the TK02 bus here from city (35mins) only to be rejected at the counter for a tiny tattoo. Sigh! The surrounding area has nice beach scenery and a great view of the airport. We watched plane taking off and landing to sulk off being rejected by the Onsen. Note: when u take the TK02 bus back to city, be careful to read the bus destination sign. Because at the same bus stop a TK02 bus takes you away from the city and a similarly looking TK02 takes you towards the city (Kokusai-dori). I took the wrong one and noticed that we passed by an outlet mall.. we got off quickily to take the other TK02 bus back (every 20 plus minutes). Not happy but I guess rules are...
