The Mount Tsukuba Ropeway is a scenic cable car system located on Mount Tsukuba, one of Japan’s most famous mountains, situated in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo. The ropeway provides visitors with an easy and breathtaking way to ascend part of the mountain, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, especially during clear weather when the Tokyo skyline and Mount Fuji are visible. Overview • Location: Mount Tsukuba is about 877 meters (2,877 feet) tall and is famous for its twin peaks, Nyotai-san (877 meters) and Nantai-san (871 meters), which represent the mythical male and female deities. The ropeway connects the foothills to the summit of Nyotai-san, the higher of the two peaks. • Accessibility: The ropeway offers a convenient and enjoyable alternative for those who prefer not to hike the entire distance to the summit. It provides quick access to the upper reaches of the mountain, making it an ideal option for visitors of all ages, including families and elderly tourists.

Ropeway was not too crowded, and the view was nice both ways. Apparently on clear days you can see Mt. Fuji, but it was too hazy when we visited. Ticket price isn't too expensive. Line for the return trip was longer, so keep in mind if you need to be down by a certain time. It’s smart of them to have the exit lead through the gift shop on the way out. Watch out for your wallet! Parking lot seemed pretty spacious and was less crowded than the area around the cable car. When we visited in late April, the azaleas by the base station were close to full bloom and very beautiful.
