I originally wrote a modest review a few years ago when I first moved here. But this place has somehow managed to get even worse. They sell expired products, including a bag of granola that had maggots writhing around inside. But let's say that's anecdotal, however it doesn't even begin to explain how terrible and rude the cashiers are. I try and send money via western union and it's always closed. If there's a line of 10-15 people, then look for the cashiers casually disregarding the customers and conversing with each other. The only reason I would ever come here is for western union, but that apparently is always broken. Did I mention that an ATM there ate my bank card? Yeah, and nobody cared. I loathe this place so much that I'm going to write a letter to corporate. Seriously, don't be fooled by the reviews from gringos who are afraid to shop locally. There are about a dozen other places, with better prices...
Read moreCalimax in San Felipe is a grocery store that offers all the convenience of food shopping that you would expect. Although they didn't have a few things that I was looking for that I wanted, it had all I needed! The fruits and vegetables are fresh and aplenty! They sell a great variety of beer and liquor, milk - lactose free also, and cold cuts and so much more. It is clean, has restrooms (for customers only), and the staff is friendly and most speak English as well, for those who don't speak Spanish. If you need a great place to shop for necessities,...

They’ll tell you to go to all sorts of places to get moneygram sent, but all but one will give you a million excuses why they can’t. The only one who helped finally was Telegraphos on Calle Negro (bless them!!!!) but be sure sender writes your FULL NAME. I’ll never return to Calimax! Mi Bodega next door has waaaay better...
