La Comer is a good place for finding many food, pharmacy, hardware, and household items and appliances. They keep good inventory, and have good seasonal offerings and many imported and USA products. Imported and USA items are often expensive, (as in most of Mexico.) But they (and affiliated City Market, across the street) often have import items that expats may seek out.
The produce, meat, deli, liquor, wine and bakery are well supplied. There is an in-store ice cream stand, and a restaurant.
They even sell tires, and, sometimes sell motorcycles and ATVS.
Customer service is very good. If you have trouble finding something, the workers on the floor will help you find stuff, either telling you where it is, or walking you there.
For people with Spanish as a second language, it helps to know the Spanish names for products when shipping, and to know a bit of Spanish, such as "Perdóname, se vende huevos?" (Excuse me, do you sell eggs?)ñ I carry a shopping list app with Spanish and English names for items, along with photos, and rarely have trouble expressing myself and getting help.
If you smile often, ask for help politely, add in a few "Buenos Días/buenas tardes, cómo estás? por favor, y gracias" it helps.
La Comer has good sale prices, and occasional quantity discounts.
Prices are sometimes not as good as corner product, meat, tortilla makers, or bakeries, but having everything under one roof is convenient.
I still shop at local tiendas for convenience, but make my occasional big shopping trips to la comer, HEB in...
Read moreI recently visited this grocery store and was genuinely impressed by the overall experience. From the moment I stepped inside, I noticed how incredibly organized and clean the store was, which made navigating through the aisles very easy and enjoyable. The layout is well-designed, allowing for a smooth shopping flow and quick access to all the sections.
One of the standout features is their impressive selection of products. They carry a wide variety of fresh produce, dairy, baked goods, and specialty items, making it a one-stop shop for all your grocery needs. I particularly appreciated the fresh tortillas and the abundant selection of seasonal fruits—they were all fresh, vibrant, and clearly high quality. The dairy and lunch meats I picked up were also fresh and tasted great, which speaks to the quality standards they maintain.
While I did notice that the prices are a bit more expensive compared to some other stores, I believe the value justifies the cost. The quality of the products, the freshness, and the excellent customer service make it worth paying a little extra. It’s clear that they prioritize offering the best for their customers, which I really appreciate.
Overall, this grocery store has become one of my favorites. It’s perfect for anyone looking for high-quality ingredients and a pleasant shopping environment. I will definitely be returning regularly to stock up on their fresh offerings and to enjoy the overall...
Read moreLa Comer is a lovely store, but staff have to be aware that people may shop, first, for other items at other locations, before they enter the store. For example, I’m glad the security guard past the cash register did not stop me, today, as it looks like the young cashier who checked me out, reported that perhaps I was stealing. Especially on Saturdays, a lot of people attend the organic market, and Mercado Sano, where they mostly pay cash for goods, such as organic vegetables, homemade tamales, etc, and they do not receive a cash receipt! Of course, one would take such delicate items out of their shopping bag to be repacked, towards the end, so they are not crushed by the heavier items, just purchased at La Comer. This should be obvious by the young cashier, although I do realize that people steal, and probably quite often. However, would somebody take things out of their shopping bag to be repacked if they were stolen? No, they would keep them well hidden in their bag! I live a humble, modest life, but I guess showing my high end, black credit card, would have saved the day, if I had been stopped and searched by security, but most people do not have this...
