This beautiful beach and island offer a unique opportunity to see flamingos up close, and it's a dream come true for anyone who's ever fantasized about this kind of encounter. The setting is stunning, with clear turquoise waters and soft sandy shores.
A few tips for your visit: Skip the cocktails as they're mostly water and sugar—stick to the beer for a better drink experience. Cabanas are often sold out, but don't lose hope; they sometimes become available even the day before due to cancellations. Planning ahead is crucial, but it's definitely worth the effort. If you’re not staying at the Renaissance Hotel, day passes are sold at 9 am every Saturday (as of now) Bring sunscreen, you don’t want to be paying 31$ like we did for when ours finished.
As a kid, I dreamed of coming to Aruba just to meet the flamingos on this island, and while seeing them was wonderful, I learned that they are actually kept in captivity and they just can’t leave. I hope this changes in the future to allow for a more natural habitat for these beautiful birds. I didn't want to bother the flamingos too much, it was so nice to see them roaming around freely. I also hope the island provides better food for them in the future instead of dog food that tourists pay for. Seeing the iguanas enjoying a giant bucket of fresh fruits for lunch all together made me super happy. Small adjustments could...
Read moreRen Island is awesome!! They have boats that run from 7 AM - 6:45 PM daily. You need to have a room key to get onto the boat. It’s about a 15 minute ride out to the island. There are 2 beaches: iguana (family friendly) & flamingo (adults only). There are iguanas everywhere but only about 6 flamingos. The flamingos are super interactive & friendly! There is a restaurant on the island too which is pretty decent. There are tons of places to sit, lay out, etc. Go early for a good spot! You can bring alcohol bottles in your bag, reusable cups, etc to save on cost. I was very disappointed to see how much plastic the bar uses on this island! Personally I think they should give each person arriving a reusable cup like a Yeti to reduce waste in the ocean.
Definitely get a private cabana it is so worth it!! They’re about $650 for the day and you can book in advance. They provide you with an ice chest with champagne, chilled glasses and Voss water bottles. You get floats, towels, snorkel masks. They bring you a morning treat of strawberries & chocolate and an afternoon treat of ice cream. You can order food to the cabana. They give you a gift of Aruba Aloe sunscreen, lip balm and after sun lotion. The service is slow & the mixed drinks have very little alcohol in them. They have a mosquito problem on the island so bring bug spray. This is the way to...
Read moreOk so I’ll start off by saying my review is heavily biased as I was mojito drunk the entire time on the three occasions I was on this island. Once we rented a cabana (highly recommend) and twice we “slummed it” lol. Since we had the all inclusive package from the hotel, it extended to the island and it was perfection. The drinks were always great (shoutout to Vivian who tolerated my drunk shenanigans), and all the food was great.
The cabana rental came with bubbly, water, and snacks. The server/ concierge was amazing and took great care of us. We stayed in the cabana for 8 hours and it was definitely money well spent.
Word of caution- DO NOT, and I repeat do not, do the walking trail. So many bloody mosquitos! It was wild and not in a good way. The view was great at the end of it but not worth the bites.
The flamingos weren’t the only birds on the island. It really should have been called pelican island because woah! They were everywhere. I gauged how inebriated I was by my closeness to the birds since I am deathly afraid of them. As you can see, I was a woman possessed by pure liquid courage.
Hope to be...
