AH Van Limburg Stirumstraat — Local services in Amsterdam

This is my local AH. The treacherous experience doesn’t justify the prices, I go to Dirk instead for this very reason. There was a renovation recently, but the flow of the store is awful. There is not enough room to get by with the crates bins and small walkways are a hassle. I understand that the stock constantly needs changing, but the strategy is dysfunctional. Also the stock somehow still sucks. The staff takes up all of the space without a care in the world and seem inconvenienced if I am trying to get a product from the freezer or shelves. The bottle recycling machine is mysteriously always out of order… the one positive note i can give is that the checkout area has improved with more stalls. And there are okay deals once in a while, i do appreciate the freshness of the items here. I know that it is possible for this store to be better because there are other AH that i have been to, other dirks and jumbos that are way better...

OK for very basic things, however I would not recommend this as a regular grocery store. It's often completely out of stock of basic things, like chicken, yet every aisle is obstructed by people stocking shelves no matter what time of week or day. This is usually not an issue, but they come barreling at high speeds with carts without looking which is very dangerous and they cut in front of you while you're looking at something on shelf. In addition the layout is not intuitive--e.g. some cheese is in one aisle and other cheeses are in another aisle. Very stressful place to shop. The store is super tiny, aisles are cramped and the restocking crates are ALWAYS in the way. Usually a lot of people, so walking around is barely possible. Staff is ignorant while restocking shelves and not caring about shopping customers. They would push crates around, hog whole shelves etc. while you have to dance around them to grab whatever product you needed.

Recycle machine is always ‘out of order’ which to me sounds like a lazy excuse cause they probably just ran out of space in the bin in the back.
