Oderings Garden Centre Barrington — Local services in Christchurch

Last Sunday I took my 91 year old Mother for an outing to buy some plants and have a coffee and cake. After paying for the plants I took Mum into the cafe, sat her down and went to order our 2 coffees and a cake for her as a treat. The guy behind the counter said "I'm not serving you now, it's 7 minutes to 4 and we close at 4." This really upset my Mother and ruined her day out. We probably would have been out of there by 5 minutes past. The guy was very rude the way he refused to change his mind. It was disgusting and ignorant, no way to treat customers least of all a 91 year old. I know Oderings will reply to this and say, "The cafe is nothing to do with us". To the management of Oderings, WRONG! you chose these people to operate the cafe on your premises. It is an integral part of the Oderings shopping experience. Needless to say after 60 years of being a loyal customer, my Mother never wishes to return to Oderings again. I note the Oderings staff on the day were very sympathetic and equally disgusted but to Oderings management, since the cafe management do not care to even apologise you must step up and share the...

I came to Oderings looking for a peace lily for my mother, Initially I was told that there weren't any left due to them being out of season so I decided to go for something different, however when I got to the counter the young girl there redirected me to where they are, helped me pick one and even gave me suggestions on where to position it and tips for looking after it. We then found a more suitable pot to put it in to make it more presentable. I'm sure she could clearly tell I know absolutely nothing about plants and tried her best to make the experience as easy and understandable as possible, in my opinion she went above and beyond to help me choose the best option given my lack of knowledge in this area and I sincerely hope that she and her superiors read this and ensure she gets some kind of praise as this was one of the best shopping experiences I have had.

Lovely staff excellent service and help great store laid out and the kids playground was available. Which is always an awesome treat when you take the kids in our case ours are usually right next to us but arnt the ones to run around a store either but when given permission will play on the playground and return to their parents intermittently or stay at the play area until we return often the likes of a garden centre though they run To us to make sure we get some of their plants and seeds they want. And oderings makes this a family friendly option for all to enjoy lots of variety and other such things available plus the cafe is beautiful.
