Fish King Takeaway — Local services in North Island

TL:DR - The food from Fish King has lured me in, hook, line and sinker, I now drive from Palmerston North to Fielding for my weekly dose of Fish and Chips. Chips cooked to golden perfection, Fried rice with a powerful punch of flavor, and delicious burgers making you want more.

Absolutely outstanding food. I stopped at Fish King to grab a quick feed on my way back to Palmy, little did I know, this decision would change my perception of takeout foods. I am based in Palmerston North, but have found myself travelling to Fish King for my weekly dose of takeaways, well worth the time and fuel.

At the current time of this posting, I am chowing down on yet another dish of their Combo Fried Rice, which is packed with an enormous kick of flavor. The rice is cooked to perfection, not too soggy, not too dry. The aftertaste sticks with you making you want to eat more when you know you can't.

The chips, each time purchased, are cooked to golden perfection with the perfect amount of crunch. Somehow the crispy crunch is maintained during the trip back to Palmy, unlike my previous regular shop which would go soggy within the 2 minute trip home.

Burgers, this one got me. Outstanding and healthy. Instantly hooked. I ordered a F.K. Burger, their signature burger from what I can tell, The moment I opened that bag of joy, I saw actual fillings - Lettuce, Tomato, onion, crispy bacon and a nice 1/4 pound juicy patty with just the right amount of sauces to tie it all together. There may have been other fillings in there, but to be honest, it didn't last long enough for me to check. My previous experiences with local shops, is generally a thin patty with a spoon of coleslaw.

This is my first ever review I have written, as I usually don't think "Man, I might write a review about this place", but the food and friendly staff at Fish King have left me flabbergasted on how good...

I don't think they want my review ...grrrrhh....twice they've stuffed up my order! First time I placed a phone order and was told 30mins as they were busy, fair enough, but when I went there 30 mins later I had to wait another hour!!! Tonight I had another bad experience, made a phone order and told 20mins, (this was at 5.05pm) which was fine, went and picked up another meal from another takeaway and arrived 20 mins later only to be told my order had been "put up the top and missed" the girl said she'd rush it through, that's fine ...BUT ...then I noticed the young man putting the orders together kept putting mine at the end of the line!!! I noticed this after waiting another 15mins....so I asked him why he kept putting my order at the end and he said "because it's not meant to be ready until 6.25pm" ...so either the girl taking my order wrote 6.25pm or he misread it ...either way, they were wrong both times!!! Any mention of a a refund for their error tonight? No, and no apology from either staff member! Prior to this new ownership, we had been going to Fish King for 20 years, but as you can guess, we went he going...

Love the look of this shop, the fun counter to the amazing and friendly service. The place was spotless and it’s the cleanest takeaway shop I have seen!

The food here is out standing! We had the sweet and sour pork, wontons. A few pieces of fish, chips. The food was so crispy and crunchy. The fish was perfect. Also all felt really light on the stomach as sometime fish and chips tend to sit heavy.

I loved that you dip the pork into the sauce as it means it’s not soggy by the time we got it home.

Well priced and would say the best fish and chips I have had in a long time! Will be back again for sure and honestly...
