U-Fly Wanaka, NZ — Local services in South Island

I emailed this company before visiting, also had a call on that morning. The officer told me just dropped by, because they were quite available that day. However, one hour before we reached, they sent an email saying that they had only one coach available for inexperienced guests, and asking whether we had flight experience before. I didn't reply, cuz we were reaching soon. Awkwardly, we entered learn-to-fly (the other company beside U-fly) by mistake. Right before payment, we realized this mistake and insisted to change to U-Fly (since we had phoned). However, on spot, the U-fly officer first told us he can be the coach (knowing that we had no experience). but after knowing the story and charges in learn-to-fly, somehow he refused us. It's said that they accepted only guests with flight experience, which is totally different from their advertisement. We do not accept this excuse. The whole story sounds like that U-Fly and learn-to-fly share the same captains for inexperienced guests. And they would send the customers to the more expensive one, if available. At least, the fact is U-FLY can not host many inexperienced flight learners (with one missing coach). Therefore I can only review one...

Flying High. Our experience with U-Fly Wanaka was exceptional. From the tentative take off, to the spectacular mountain flying, the whole time was a thrill. I had not expected such a 'hands on' experience and the flight with Isaac exceeded my expectations. Flying around, taking the controls for such a large part of the flight was stimulating. Marguerite and I flew over areas of Aspiring National Park where I had been tramping and climbing over the last 50 years. I only wish I had done this flight 30 years ago! An amazing experience! Vic (Pilot) was an awesome coach and had a very calming presence, even when it got a bit turbulent at times, he did a fantastic job at helping me keep my cool and working through it. Safety was paramount which I really appreciated - I had originally booked to do the glacier route but due to low cloud we were only able to do the half hour flying lesson which was still such an amazing experience.
