Huaca La Merced — Local services in Lima Metropolitan Area

In Peru, "huaca" (word of Quechua origin) is usually referred to a place that preserves the remains of some Inca or pre-Inca population, or the remains of sacred constructions. The Huaca La Merced is a small archaeological monument restored and recovered by a team led by archaeologists Cecilia Camargo and Pedro Caycho with architect Mirna Soto.

This huaca belonged to the Ichma culture and its structures were made with river stones and mud bricks forming a pyramid with ramps and staircases.

Prior to its restoration, the place was looted by "huaqueros", unscrupulous people who violate these places for profit, although, in spite of this, it was possible to find remains of vessels, textiles, bones, instruments, mollusk shells, spondylus and also a funerary bundle in excellent condition.

Despite announcements and promises to offer the huaca for the visit of those interested in history, culture, architecture and other branches of science, they have not even built the promised small Site Museum nor constructed the 11 cabinets for research and other purposes. Muy buen sitio cultural , son restos prehispánicos de un asentamiento de la antigua sociedad Ichma. Excelente trabajo de restauración y puesta en valor. Hay un circuito a modo de recorrido con 4 paneles informativos infográficos, el sendero es delimitado y recorre el perímetro de la huaca (no se ingresa a la estructura en sí ni se puede subir) y un detalle bonito fue que las plantas y arbustos que adornan el sendero tienen sus cartelitos identificando qué especie botánica son. Cuenta con baños y un Centro de Interpretación (mini museo) en donde se exhiben réplicas de piezas encontradas en el sitio y donde hay paneles informativos ilustrativos sobre la cultura Ichsma, arquitectura, textileria, labor arqueológica y otros restos arqueológicos del valle del Rimaq y el canal de Sullco.
