I like this place. But today, in an almost EMPTY food court, a female security guard approached me and at first told me not to sit cross-legged on the steel benches because… well, she didn’t seem to know her reasons for calling me out as well. I asked her why and she had a different reason for every time I pressed the question. FIRST ANSWER: She said “it’s against the rules of the food court.” To which I asked where that was written because I certainly saw no such sign. So when she couldn’t give me any answer to that, she gave a SECOND ANSWER: People might see me sitting that way. Like I said, THE FOOD COURT WAS NEAR EMPTY. The mall had almost just opened. I was sitting in an unimposing corner that is practically covered on one side and blindsided from most others’ view. I wasn’t even facing the walking spaces. No one was even paying the remotest attention to me (none other than this security guard apparently, who seemed to have a personal vendetta against me for some reason because she just HAD to call me out for something). When I told her no one was even looking at me and that it was no biggie because I was going to wipe the seat after I left, she STILL HAD TO HAVE SOME REASON TO BE A KAREN AT ME so she asked me what I was doing and if I was waiting for someone. When I said yes, she said “Bawal tumambay dito.” Huh? In an almost empty food court? Wow. I have been to countless other food courts all my life and never heard of such a thing. Funnily enough, there was a woman who was just sitting right behind her in another table also “tambaying” and not eating anything, yet this prickly lady guard was not breathing fire down her throat and was weirdly fixated on me. When I said OK and raised my phone camera to record her berating me because if that were all true she had nothing to fear then, she said GO AHEAD, then later accused me of taking her picture without her permission. So “go ahead” means… “no”? 😓 I am so confused. It struck me as really odd behaviour. Like she was on drugs or some psychedelic substance because she was acting really irrational. But she STILL continued to harass me and said I should stand up and go over to a wall where there are rules written. To that, I said OK again, but didn’t get up right away as I was busy texting someone important. She finally moves away but proceeds to give me the evil eye from a short distance. LIKE WHO THE HELL AM I DISTURBING??? Is the mall losing money because someone is just using one of the VACANT SEATS AMONG MANY MANY MANY STILL VACANT SEATS in the food court? I was waiting for someone and we were supposed to eat there but GOOD GODS WHAT A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. It’s like I stepped into a concentration camp instead of an ALMOST EMPTY FOOD COURT. No way I am going back there lest we get harassed again by that extremely unpleasant female security guard. What kind of people do SM CITY SANTA ROSA hire anyway? Certainly not the most welcoming kind.
And yes, I covered my legs with a jacket so no one could “see me” sitting cross-legged and I wiped the chair with alcohol and tissue before I left....
