Danube - Takhassousi — Local services in Shmeisi Municipality

One star because of a racist incident by an undereducated, undertrained, and overzealous security guard.

I am quite regular at Danube for select items; otherwise, I avoid them for overpriced items that cost less at Panda and Lulu. The incident began when my toddler started to cry. I gave him a pack of biscuits (worth 2.5 riyals) to calm him down.

He opened the pack and started to eat—something very common for me, but I always ensure to pay for every single item. At the same item, a security guard approached me, saying it's prohibited. I said he was crying, this way at least he is silent and it's 2 riyals which I won't bother to steal and it's a kid crying I need to calm him down and eventually I will pay for it (I know conversational Arabic).

He said it's a policy. I said fine, but the pack is open now, and I am sorry it cannot be undone (I literally apologized for respect that the guy is just doing his job).

As my wife got busy shopping, I noted that a--hole security guy is following me to every aisle, which was confirmed once I took a few random turns. I found him at a distance following us. He kept following us until the cashier at checkout. Habitually, I pay for the opened biscuits first, then the rest of the items. That idiot security guard stayed at the counter. I kept ignoring him as a useless low life looking for confrontation.

After paying as we were moving out, he asked the cashier if I paid for biscuits, and at that point in time, I decided to deal with him on his own terms. I started to stare at him, just in case he made eye contact with me, but he avoided that and walked away. I kept staring at him until he disappeared if stops to talk to me again.

Asking customers to follow whatever policy is fine, but following them in the entire store and that silly double check with the cashier is definitely racist (I am a brown person, not Saudi, not Arab, or White).

Danube needs to educate and train their security, instead of simply hiring high schoolers. Lastly, I am not returning to the Danube ever. I never liked their overpriced items and after this incident the company is out of my life.

I am just sharing my experience to make it official in case anyone bothers to read. If it was Canada or another first world country, I would sue the hell out of the Danube. But here, who cares just...

I like this place. Always very clean and the workers are very helpful. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and has different types that you usually don't find them elsewhere.
