A worthwhile museum, particularly if you're interested in what computers can (and cannot) do by way of art. Mostly comprises audio-visual installations, with a smaller number of paintings and photos. Several of the computer generated works are genuinely good, while the central hall (with works by Kim Yong Min) certainly wows. The museum is let down by the loud cacophony of audio carrying through thin/ cloth room dividers, which spoils the experience of several quieter works. My visit was also nearly ruined by huge school kid groups (unruly and unsupervised) and the usual tedious Instagrammers. If you're in the small minority of visitors who want to experience the art, budget about 2-3hrs. If you just want to take photos and annoy everyone else, about 30mins. Entry costs KRW18,000, which is reasonable. Signs in the usual contemporary art gibberish are posted in Korean...

TL;DR: What a tourist trap. Don't go.

It's AI slop you see on TikTok, just on big screen. Is it art? Maybe, by a stretch of definition.

How it's different from quality art?

A great example would be a room where you have 2 installations on the opposite sides. The room is small. Both installations have sound, which is overlapping and you can't clearly "immerse" into any of those 2 installations.

Another example is similar, where you get a dark room with a projector beaming something on the wall. Could be cool, but they put bright TV screens on the opposite wall, so you can't clearly see what's happening on the projected screen. And no, it's not on purpose.

And some rooms have some "art" shown on smaller screens which have horrible refresh rate, so it's all jittery when it's obviously supposed to be smooth.

A waste of time and...

Museum 1 is a combination of digital and interpretive art which is housed in several rooms across 2 floors.

Some of the displays are incredible where you are lost for ages as your eyes attempt to take in the wild visions, some are less so but in combination it's certainly eye candy worth exploring.

The main hall area with the gigantic display which curves along the floor and up at both ends is impressive and also HOT!!! This is certainly a museum where you will be wanting to take some layers off due to the sheer amount of heat the displays are generating.

Additionally you CANNOT take backpacks/rucksacks in with you, and will have to pay ₩500 (nonrefundable) for a locker. But just throw everything in that locker. Additionally if you want refreshments on 2F there is a vending machine for drinks which you might need because...
