Fundación Exponav — Local services in Ferrol

This is a nice little museum that focuses on naval construction over time. There are lots of models and artefacts, plus some explanations. It's also a lively relaxing space.

On the downside, the story of naval construction isn't told particularly coherently. It's basically a lot of models (someone must've loved making them) and other bits and pieces just chucked together in one place. Where you see a minor explanation by an exhibit, it seems like it's been written twice in Spanish (or is that Galician?). Other explanations are translated into English etc albeit with some translation 'quirks'.

However, it's €2 for an adult that's been enjoyably spent! Free wifi and the adjoining museum...

Being a maritime engineer myself, this place is enjoyable and the Euro 2 dollar is definitely well spent.

Glad to know that Ferrol Shipyard, used to produced aircraft carrier, twin Derrick drillship back in 1998, as well as FPSO in 1995.

If u r here without any knowledge in maritime, then this place is not for you as it doesn’t explain the overall construction process well. Skip this n visit the one next door...

La Fundación Exponav ocupa uno de los antiguos edificios de los astilleros navales de Ferrol y acoge un museo dedicado a la historia de la construcción naval española. En sus dos plantas alberga maquetas a escala de buques desde galeones del siglo XVII hasta fragatas modernas, motores, herramientas, planos y audiovisuales. Un recorrido didáctico permite entender la evolución de la ingeniería naval y la importancia de los astilleros ferrolanos. Las piezas están muy bien explicadas y hay paneles interactivos que entretienen a niños y adultos. Además, se pueden ver uniformes, equipos de salvamento y una colección de nudos marineros. La entrada es gratuita o muy económica y el personal es apasionado y atento. Es un espacio imprescindible para amantes de la historia marítima y para quienes quieran conocer el patrimonio...
