I want to give it Zero stars but unable to. What scam/sham. Purchased tickets online sold on the premise of early access, 4 hours of peaceful bliss in air-conditioned room with access to seating, charge points and Wi-Fi. Ability to change clothes and freshen up. If you have this expectation let me kill that idea dead for you dead. Not a chance. We arrived at the airport unable to gain access as your not allowed through by your airline 2.5 hours before you fly. So impossible to use the 4 hours unless your delayed. We arrived in plenty of time 2.5 hours; to be confronted with photo attached as proof a sign saying the VIP lounge is not allow access it is at capacity. So, I went to speak with front desk and even though we had booked/pre-paid/reserved we were denied access as there was literally no room. The place was indeed ram packed and not tranquil. I was not the only ones waiting to get in queuing at the door to gain access when already paid either. All denied access. We were told we are not being denied access (so they don’t have to refund us I presume) but was told it would be about 2 hours before seating would be available – Yep 2 hours! I would have been boarding by that time. When I asked to speak with the manager the front desk lady got very aggressive, she was raising her voice at me. If she reads this, she will recall me as I was asking for some for of receipt saying we were denied access and I was simply talking to her as a human being not shouting like she was at me. She denied me anything in writing, I asked to speak with the manager, and she said she was the manager. I asked for her name, and she covered her badge from my view. Well, I calmly took this as a challenge then and took a selfie of myself, the clock and herself at the desk…Wow this stirred the hornets nest “security security” she was trying to get me kicked out of the airport calling her staff members as well. So, she will love the photo she asked me to delete/remove I recovered from my deleted items so I could attach to this review so all can see, PS you can’t see her face so its not identifiable lol. Back to the review…Paying £40 per person 5 of us including one adult in a wheelchair. We were denied access they over sell places, so they are constantly full. Do they care nope. Anyone can walk up to the desk and buy when there so if you have pre-booked don’t expect any special treatment it’s a free for all. The photos of the place don’t look like that when its in use trust me its like a packed restaurant with a big M in the name. After sending a few emails to Aena I have managed to get a full refund. If by some change you gain access and you’re the only plane leaving the airport, then you might get a reasonable experience but don’t hold your breath. We bought food from one of the many restaurants in the airport, having to waiting for seating and all the usual dilemmas paid about the same per head just not the airport experience...
Read moreThe absolute worst airport lounge I've ever been to.
I booked the lounge for a specific time many months in advance with my DragonPass using prepaid passes.
Upon entering, there was a huge queue, and I found out that my reservation meant nothing. The two staff members were going down the line, informing people that they probably wouldn't get in. While it's normal anywhere else for airport lounges to reserve a table when you pre-book I overlooked this as I didn't want to cause a scene and decided to handle it calmly. I informed them that it wasn't a problem I did not need to use the lounge and would go elsewhere - but requested to have my 4 prepaid passes credited back to my card so I could use them elsewhere at another time.
To my astonishment, they refused. They claimed that because I was at the back of a long 'one in, one out' queue, I would not be allowed in, and because I used a DragonPass I would also have to forfeit the passes. Not wanting to create a disturbance in front of everyone, I simply asked for a contact email address to resolve the issue when back home. However, they kept making phone calls to a manager, then rudely leaving with no explanation and never provided me with any details. After about 40 minutes of trying to sort it out and waiting for some contact details, and with two frustrated young kids in tow, the lounge emptied out, presumably due to a departure announcement.
At that point, it seemed easier to just use the lounge, albeit for only half the allotted time by then. Once inside, I found the lounge to be filthy, cramped and with very basic and unappetizing food offerings. Many essentials like all the coffee options and milk were used up.
I really regretted bothering and wished I had saved my passes for another lounge.
My advice for those considering this lounge: DO NOT pre-book. It's not worth it and is not honored anyway.
Even if it were clean and fully stocked, it is not worth the cost for me, but if you have to go take your chance on the...
Read moreAlso share the same view as @Mat's review, I think all the low scores are quite unfair considering what we have experienced with Gatwick No 1 Lounge, a much bigger lounge which is supposedly a premium service, there was hardly any food (lunch time - 3 dishes), no crockeries or cutleries, food ran out all the time, even heard complaints to the manager twice while we were at the Gatwick Lounge.
Coming to this lounge, we had low expectations due to other reviews, however, if compared with No 1 Lounge, we would rate this much higher. Yes, the lounge is small, but there are plenty of refreshments, the staff are friendly and polite, you certainly feel a lot more privileged than you would with Gatwick (I know, I keep banging on about it, but this gives you some perspective).
As mentioned, the lounge is small, we were quite lucky to have the last table before they started asking people to wait, or they have been turned away.
I think this lounge deserves a lot...
