Azkena Rock Festival — Local services in Vitoria-Gasteiz

Music is actually 6 out of 5. If you like great music and close access (we were front row for Flaming Lips without trying, there 30 minutes before), this is your festival.

The downside was the food and drink. No cider or wine (white/rose/red), especially missed the cider, especially in Basque country. And had to continually check the pour on the beer as many bartenders gave a glass of froth. And the food, for a country that invented fast food (tapas) the food was really disappointing. Uncooked chips, most basic burger of all time, and even the pictures of the pizza were a turnoff.

But the music, I've never been to festival with such high quality line-up and such easy access, and everyone pretty chilled and enjoying...

Sehr nettes mittelgroßes Qualitätsfestival, das sich eigenen Geschmack erlaubt von Roots/Americana bis Punk/Hardcore - nicht den üblichen LiveNation-Einheitsbrei, kein HipHop, keine EDM.

Das Cashless-System gefällt, womit man sein Wristband auflädt und dann überall mit dem Armband bezahlen kann. Auch das Guthaben wurde 1 Woche nach Ende schon zurückgezahlt.

Wie andere schon anmerkten, die (Essens-)Verpflegung auf dem Gelände war Katastrophe. Die Bierpreise kann ich noch akzeptieren, auch kurze Wartezeiten. Aber lange anstehen für eine 7 EUR Pommes oder einen 13 EUR Burger, nein danke.

Da es ein Stadtfestival, ein Stadtrandfestival ist, gibt es Alternativen. Keine 100 Meter vom Camping eine nette Bar mit Kaffee und Snack für EUR 3,55. Keine 1000 Meter entfernt gibt es Supermärkte.

Besonderes Lob für den vergleichsweise winzigen Camping. Betreiber, Personal, Helfer alle super nett und hilfsbereit. WCs und Duschen werden ständig geputzt. Ein Festival mit täglicher frischer Dusche kenn ich gar nicht mehr :-)

Die spanischen Zeiten kommen mir auch als Mitteleuropäer sehr entgegen. Keine Gigs in der Mittagshitze, das Festivalgelände öffnet erst um 17 Uhr, dafür geht es bis 4 Uhr am Morgen. Der Nachmittag ist zum Relaxen im Schatten, für Körperpflege und für leibliche Verpflegung.

Also mit 1 Downside, dem Essen auf dem Gelände, hat es super Spaß gemacht. Vielen Dank an...

El problema del Azkena es el line up demasiado clasico. Este año , de todos modos, ha mejoardo algo. Dinosaur, Flaming Lips, Pil, Richar Hawley.Pero, el problema de las bandas penazo persiste; the Hellacooters, Turbonegro, etc. La pasada edicion no fui por eso. Mas diversidad y aventuras experimentales es lo que quiero. El rock tradicional se está muriendo. Ps: bastante penoso lo de las Runaways por cierto. Algunos nombres que me gustaría ver en Azkena; The Big Thief, Nick Cave, the Dirty three, Jason Isbell, Kim Gordon, Blixa, the mekons, massive Attack, billy prince bony, mick Harvey con su nuevo proyecto, the roots, lankun, jesus and mary chain, primal screan, wire,david callahan,ryan adams, cass macconbs,Tv on the radio, and so on.
