The experince in itself is quite amazing, I personally had a bad experience with my Instructor (Jonathan) which is why my review is only 2 stars. So, during my flight the wind slightly flipped me over which most likely made me panic a bit. I say 'most likely panic' because I instinctively held onto my Instructors wrist when this happened, I felt I was drifting away so I held onto the hand reaching towards me. He pulled me up and led me towards the door, grabbed my wrist and turned my hand quite roughly. This in itself didn't bother me because I know a certain amount of force is needed due to the powerful winds coming from below. When I was outside of the doorway (already standing on my two feet with my back towards him) he pushed me, when I turned around to face him he signaled that I shouldn't grab his wrist and seemed very angry. This is where I felt uncomfortable.... uncomfortable to the point that I didn't even want to take my second flight eventhough it was booked and paid for.
I personally think being an Instructor for such an extreme sport requires a certain amount of empathy towards your students. Things like this are sure to happen if someone has never flown before. Maybe it bothered him that I grabbed him... which I understand to a certain degree... yet there was no reason for him to push me the way he did nor be angry about it. He could have said it kindly... If he is a professional and does this day in and day out he has most likely seen much much worse.
My husband happened to videotape it from the outside and 'mouthed' multiple times if I was ok, when I went back to my seat, he seemed very concerned after I flew. Due to the fact that it all happened so fast I really didn't know what to say, but I signaled that I was fine while simultaneousely feeling very uncomfortable and close to tears, yet holding them back because my toddler was watching too and I didn't want him to think I wasn't ok. When I got home I looked at the video multiple times and I must say my husbands concerns and my discomfort were perfectly placed. There really was no need for the 'extra push' at the end, I was already out the door and standing on my own two feet. Also things could be said nicely, it was quite unnecessary.
All in all the 31 seconds I flew were cool but the rest not so much. Will I do it again? Most likely not, I put so much value in professionalism, kindness and empathy and didn't feel any of that today....it is an extreme sport but even that requires a sense of Tact in my opinion. My family members had a great time though so maybe my situation was just a bit...
Read moreInvited the activity one day in advance, to do on our way with the family between Schwarzwald and Lichtenstein, after Rhine falls, and before Chocoletarium. Was the perfect stop. The check in was easy, the instructor Joseph was very methodological about what is going to happen, made it easy to grasp for my 7,10 and 14 years old kids, and did it both in German and English. The attraction itself was aligned to beginners level, and Joseph helped us just as much we needed to progress, and gave us room to fly independently when we showed understanding of body control. We wrapped up by flying high above ground. The experience was great, and also Joseph finishing performance where he showed us what he was capable of doing. I would highly recommend as...
