วัดคีรีวันต์ เดิมชื่อ วัดบ้านปากช่อง ตั้งเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2477 ได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2484 แต่เดิมเป็นสำนักสงฆ์ที่ตั้งอยู่ระหว่างช่วงเขาดงพญาไฟ (เย็น) ครั้นต่อมาได้มีการจับจองที่ดินกันมากขึ้น จึงมีการยกที่ดินให้เป็นที่พำนักสงฆ์ขึ้นเพื่อสะดวกในการทำบุญ วัดได้สร้างถาวรวัตถุมาตามลำดับ โดยมีพระคณาจารย์จากถิ่นต่าง ๆ ธุดงค์มาบ้าง และมาเยี่ยมบ้าง แล้วเข้าพักอาศัยอยู่ชั่วคราว เพื่อมาอบรมศีลธรรมแก่ญาติโยม หรือ มารักษาปัดเป่าโรคภัยไข้เจ็บแก่ญาติโยมบ้าง ตามที่ญาติโยมได้อาราธนานิมนต์
