I joined a horse ride tour on 27.12.2024. First, we had to sign a form without explanation what it was. On that tour, 7 Japanese(horses) were there. My horse was tired from the beginning and crouched suddenly or ate hays often. Staff came to the hours and took care, however, it happened always. At that time, the staff said if you pull the reins to the right, the horse would turn to the right.
There was a slope just before the first resting point, and the horse couldn't climb it so it crouched down. Then suddenly it stood up on two legs and I fell off the horse. Unfortunately, only my right horse foot step came off and my left foot step remained, so I twisted my leg to the left side and fell to the ground. Staff rushed over to me and removed the ring, but the horse ran off somewhere (The horse ran to the break point). I had to walk to the break point with pain. It made a small hole in the down jacket, which I was wearing at the time. Although the hole was small, a down was constantly leaking out through it.
At the break point, another staff was there, and told me “Go back on the horse or on foot”. I could walk with pain, but he said “I saw that you walked. Your pain is not so serious!” I contacted to a travel agency for the help if one of travel or arrangement company could help medical treatment and also make a payment to sew a hole in jacket. Travel agency said, that was own risk and own payment. I agreed with it. Then I changed to ask supporting. If the horse company had a first aid kit with a medicine patch I want to use it, and if they know, introduce a sewing shop by my payment.
After the break, started to go back to the starting point. Staff changed a horse, which was not tired. A small woman took the tired horse.
At the office, a manager was upset. I didn’t understand why. The travel agency, Bridge of the world, talked with the manager and said that I was demanding compensation for medical expenses and clothing from the horse company. Language barrier made misunderstanding. The travel agency staff explained my requests (medicine patch & place of sewing shop) to the manager in Turkish on the phone. The manager ignored them. The manager was still upset, and let me leave the group. Another members went back to Goreme. I stayed at the office. The manager wanted to talk with me. However, he just complained that he liked Japanese except me(I am Japanese) , and upset that I told the travel agency on it. He said, we taught guests how to use the reins. You used them wrong. Participants had no lessons beforehand. Finally “Your injury is not serious. Show your knee”. In the office, young woman for another tour was there. I asked “I have to pants down in front of the lady?”, he said yes. In Turkey, is it normal? The office was not at an emergency hospital. I refused it. After one hour, he called a taxi and sent me and the women to Goreme. Taxi company asked to pay the fee. I told a driver to ask the manager. He said that the company paid. I didn’t pay. After 3 months (Now March 2025), I am undergoing treatment for my left foot and shoulder at a rehabilitation center near my home and the pain is still there. My jacket hole is closed by a sewing kit by myself.
