Read moreMirzam Chocolate Makers, established in Dubai in 2016, is a distinguished Emirati bean-to-bar chocolatier. The company draws inspiration from the historical maritime Spice Route, sourcing ingredients like cardamom, pistachios, and saffron to craft chocolates that reflect the region's rich heritage.
Under the leadership of Chief Chocolate Officer Kathy Johnston, Mirzam has garnered international acclaim, including recognition from the London-based Academy of Chocolate in 2017. The company's factory and retail space in Dubai's Alserkal Avenue has become a notable destination, offering visitors a transparent view of the chocolate-making process.
In 2018, Mirzam was selected as the official artisanal chocolate licensee for Expo 2020 Dubai, creating exclusive chocolate lines for the event. This collaboration underscores the brand's prominence in the region's premium chocolate market.
While specific market share and sales figures for Mirzam are not publicly disclosed, the Middle East and African premium chocolate market is highly competitive, featuring both global and regional players. Key companies in this sector include Al Nassma Chocolate LLC, Cocoa Sampaka, and Godiva. Mirzam's innovative approach and cultural resonance have solidified its position as a significant player in...
Read moreI heard of Mirzam years ago (before COVID hit, actually) and have been eager to visit it since and finally try its chocolate. And it didn't disappoint.
The cafe had high ceilings and comfortable couches. It was filled with natural light and seamlessly integrated with the chocolate factory and shop.
Most of the chocolate came with artfully displayed tasting containers and there was even a tagine used to hold some of the newer chocolate selections.
The chocolate was deliciously nuanced and skillfully crafted, and anyone who is familiar with craft chocolate will appreciate how the flavours develop on their palate. The chocolate wasn't cheap and cheerful, but it was worth every dirham, and I picked a selection of bars to bring home. The truffles were 4.50 dirhams per piece, and the chocolate bars ranged between 36 and 45 dirhams in price on average.
Another thing I really liked was how Mirzam's chocolate wrappers celebrate Emirati artists and the illustrations were so pretty that I really wish I could've brought one of every bar home with me.
There was a cafe that offered drinks and desserts and pastries. I picked the iced Madagascar chocolate and it was such a flavourful confection that it felt like a lush, liquid dessert. Hopefully we'll get to go back again before...
