Engage Watersports — Local services in Beeches Community Board

I have had a hankering to try kayaking for a while; nothing serious just wanted to learn enough to paddle around aimlessly and enjoy a bit of on water peace and quiet. A telephone conversation with Chris quickly persuaded me that I should do a BC1* course, rather than a taster session. (I had kayaked a couple of times previously when on holiday).

The course was a small group, just five students, which suited me well and allowed Chris to keep a close eye on everyone so that we did not ignore his good advice and develop bad habits from the outset. The day started with a few essential safety points then it was onto sheltered water to learn the basic strokes. Once those were accomplished it was on to (slightly) more advanced skills and practice at maneuvering the chosen craft. (Everyone had chosen to use a sit on top kayak on this course, however open ("Canadian") canoes or closed kayaks were available as options.

A lunch break (great food!) was followed by relocating to the nearby Jubilee River for a couple of hours of paddling on calm waters with something interesting to look at. Fabulous.

Then back to the lake for a last couple of skills and a chance to get wet... The mandatory capsize drill ;-( No one drowned and we all gained the 1* pass.

Overall the day was great fun and I learned a lot. It proved expensive though; I could not resist any longer and am now the proud owner of a kayak of my own.

Had a wonderful day doing SUP on the Jubilee River, as the lake was busy with wakeboarding and water skiing. The staff are friendly and professional. Booking in advance on their website is recommended. I also advise bringing some water shoes for the crossings on land. A changing room exists in the restaurant /...

Had a personal SUP taster session...simply great, Chris was easy going and takes it at your pace. Sunshine came out and the lake was beautiful, definitely reccommend...I personally didn't sample the cafe but my husband enjoyed his lakeside beer! Great family...
