Costa Coffee — Restaurant in England

I don't like the new decor in this costa, it feels cheap and obviously designed to be easy to clean yet it's lost its appeal to me somehow. Queues were 12 deep mid morning, the barista on the drinks dispensing machine was cranky and scowling as I heard her tell her colleagues she had been on it for 6 hours. The rest of the staff were pleasant trying to deal with the long queues snaking around the shop. It was crowded, new decor meant more chairs and tables so over crowded. I know it's all about making max money but I won't be returning as I see going to a coffee shop alone or with family and paying for premium drinks as a treat away from home which I want to be calm and allow me to have time out. It felt like a creche on Saturday. My children are grown up now, so I do understand families with young children and dogs also need a space to relax. I will try the other independent coffee shops...

Worst customer service ever (witness) Me and my wife usually go there for a cup of coffe every week.

On our last visit. A small family seated opposite us with two children had bought some snacks with them for their children. Even though the snacks where biscuits/cakes, a member of staff immediately started confronted them for bringing food not bought from costa.

Even though the family had bough food and drinks from costa, the member of staff called his manager and next thing you know there were 3 staff shouting at the family in middle of the cafe.

The behaviour of the staff disgusted me. What made it worse is the managers behaviour, instead of calming the situation they made a massive scene instead. The family were left embarrassed and left the cafe shorty after. And because of this. I will never go back to...

This place has got a little haphazard for about a year now. Store opening times are inconsistent and don't match what's on Google. I've popped over a few times the last couple of months and the opening time has just got later. Saturday on Google it says you open at 7am, I turned up at 7:35 and the shop was not open. Also mirroring some other people's comments below, during the mandatory covid mask period rarely did any of the staff if any wore masks or even attempted to.

Sometimes the coffee can vary depending on who makes it. Most of the baristas are good but occasionally so you get someone who could be better. As the price of the coffees creep up I'd like to enjoy what I'm drinking.
