I recently stopped at this service station, and overall it’s a very mixed experience. Starting with the positives, they do have a good variety of food options - KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, Subway, Chopstix, and more - all open a bit later on Sundays. The food court is uniquely built right over the motorway, so you can watch traffic passing underneath, which adds a fun and atmospheric touch while you eat.
In terms of other facilities, they have a WHSmith, a small casino area, and a so called “gift shop” that really felt more like a vape shop than anything else. It was a little odd since it didn’t really have many actual gifts. Still, it's nice to have a few extra conveniences on site.
Now, for the less pleasant side of things. The toilets were honestly pretty gross. The main indoor toilets were out of order, and they’d set up a bunch of portaloos outside. It was cold and damp, and the whole area felt unkempt. There was rubbish on the floor, and instead of actually emptying the full bins, they just added more bins next to them, which didn’t help at all and just made the space feel even more neglected. There weren't any attendants, which was really obvious with the state of the toilets. The portaloos themselves were in a sorry state, with lots of... "matter"... left in the basin, and it’s definitely not the kind of bathroom experience you’d want - especially in cold weather.
To top it off, there was an incident where a child was spewing vomit - three times, in fact - on the wall and the floor near the food court. It took a while for anyone to come help, which was tough on the family, especially the poor child who was experiencing this. The staff who were there were doing a great job, but there just weren’t enough of them to keep up with everything.
In summary, while the place does have a nice selection of food and a unique vantage point, the toilet situation was frankly awful and the overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. It’s not the place I’d rely on for a comfortable, clean rest stop in...
Read moreAlthough new showers the water is so cold. For some of us who drive up and down the country bringing you the goods, there is no other way to get clean our self's. Talking to the lady on northbound that there is no hot water in there , she suggested that I have to wait because they opened now the boiler and it takes time to come over , probably from Scotland I suppose.
On the southbound same situation again and the mature Indian lady said that there are no complaints so far and everyone finds it very good.and she turn away from me when I'm was talked to her and start talking with someone else who wanted to have the fob, while in both cases someone else was in the showers before me, already screaming that the water is cold. What can a man say about the inability of some to be in the real world.
Because I'm travelling all the UK I have to say that in my opinion in England the services policy is to get rid truckers somehow. It is not possible for the so-called engineers who adjust the temperature or the water, just make it from cold to almost boiling in some other services. Only on Wales they have some with mixing tabs, something that should be EVERYWHERE.
If you guys, who built all those things new just to avoid any lawsuit because they were filthy, you think that people going in there doesn't belong to the human race, then you better think again.
Thanks...
Read moreThe layout of the services is really bad forcing everyone to congregate in one area regardless of whether you are there to go to the food court or to use the toilets.
We needed to use the toilets. The hallway to get to the toilets is really narrow and can only fit 2 people side by side. Our daughter is in a wheelchair so we needed to use the accessible toilets. It was very unclear where the accessible toilets were, they were signposted towards the male and female toilets but it was unclear where they actually were (you have to enter the walkway towards the women's toilets before you see them). There was barely enough room for my daughter to get her wheelchair down the walkway as people were standing in the way waiting for their travelling companions to exit the toilets. The toilet room was a tight squeeze for a wheelchair, wheelchair user and someone to assist. Plus it didn't seem all that clean.
We were planning on staying to get something to eat and drink, but after our experience with the toilets we decided against this plus the hassle of having to use the lift to get up to the food court with the wheelchair.
Suffice to say, we will be avoiding these services in the future and would suggest that anyone else in a wheelchair...
