Hoghton Tower — Local services in Chorley

I booked an afternoon tea for my grandma's 86th birthday and I couldn't recommend it enough!! My grandma has limited mobility so the steps surrounding the tower were a bit of an issue (this is because the property is a grade 1 listed building so they cannot build ramps to make it accesible) however, the staff were more than accommodating to make her experience as comfortable as possible. Natalie made arrangements for us before our arrival and gave me plenty of information regarding the accessibility. The afternoon tea was amazing and so tasty! Our server was Jack, and they were absolutely amazing from start to finish. Catered to every need and made the experience lovely for me and my grandma. They recommended a walk round the gardens (which I thought we wouldn't be able to do due to the accessibility) however, when I mentioned this, they radioed their colleague to take us on a mini tour of the ground floor of the house and also allowed us to get to the gardens without the use of steps. They even gave us a little history tour whilst they guided us to the gardens. Lovely VIP treatment! As we was leaving the older gentleman who originally greeted us and helped my grandma up the stairs came to wave us off and gave us some more history on the tower.

All in all, the staff were amazing from Start to finish!!!! The only reason I knocked it a star was because I couldn't see information on the accessibility of the property straight away so it was a good job I asked but the staff more than made up for it.

Beautiful building, it's really exciting driving up the long country path to reach the gravel car park just to the left, it's not very obvious it's there until you get to it, so keep an eye out.

There is s short walk, with steps from the car park to the venue, and once in the court yard it was a little confusing where the tea room was, but we found it.

We didn't have enough time to do the guided tour of the listed building, but I would like to do it at some point.

I must say, walking through the grand door and seeing the Taxidermy on the walls was quite an eye opener, and it felt authentic.

Walking into the tea room that was nare walls, bit had been modernised I was a little let down. The girls that served us didn't seem that engaged and it took a good cough from me to draw their attention to serve us. The afternoon tea was pretty standard, it was alright. Nothing too much to write home about, the tea was ok, the silk bags. But I do prefer loose tea for afternoon tea, so that's pretty individual. The bread was just shop bought, I would rather have home made, the scone was nice. But it wasn't fresh cream, just spray cream.

All in all, it was nice. But I expected MORE of an experience of the good stuff being I was sat in this gorgeous old building.

They do loyalty cards for coffee too, which is always a plus.

Id rather have the best of the best though and pay for every...

We visited Hoghton Tower on Saturday as a group of dolls' house enthusiasts and had a truly wonderful day. It was a pre-arranged visit to view the large and varied collection of dolls' houses. From the moment we were greeted upon arrival, until the moment we left, we were looked after incredibly well by the super-friendly, super-helpful volunteer staff. We were given plenty of time to feast our eyes on the dolls' houses and learned a lot about them from the knowledgeable staff (bearing in mind that we were probably the biggest bunch of know-it-alls they'd ever had in there!). We enjoyed a super tour of the tower itself which is a stunning building and so rich in history (nicely recounted by the interesting and engaging volunteer staff in each room). We also enjoyed leisurely coffee and lunch breaks in the lovely tearoom (we wished we'd thought to book for afternoon tea - it looked superb!) and, after a very rainy start to the day, the sun even came out for an afternoon stroll around the pretty gardens.

The feedback from everyone in our group was excellent and we would certainly recommend a dolls' house themed visit to other enthusiasts looking for a fun and interesting day out. Thank you and well done to all at...
